Finally raced my bro's 04 max
I have owned my 02 tl type s for alsost 4 years now. my brother got his 04 maxima se a year ago. we have always been talking smack back and forth about whos car is faster. finally we decided to let the cars do the talking. both cars are completely stock and automatics with our vsa's off, i have about 70,000 miles on mine, his has only 18,000. we went out at about midnight on back roads and did 0-120. First run- i think i got a little bit of a jump because he said he roached it too much so i sprung out to about a half car lead, and i just held that lead till around 100 then we backed off. Second run- my brother got the jump on me and pulled to about a car, then around 100(when he shifted into forth) i was gaining pretty fast on him because i was still in my third, and at 120 he still had a quarter car on me but i stopped pulling on him. third race- i got a little bit of a jump and i pulled out to about a car then at around 80-100 he was coming up on me and then evened out again around 110. so overall our cars are pretty much evenly matched it really depends on the launch.

i like the look of the TL better than the Max. i like the max, but the TL's got a wider, lower stance. the Maxima is too bulky to be really that sporty. although the maxima is freakin luxurious when you get the fully loaded model.

cool race... I remember back in the day the 03 Maxima (last body style) but with the 3.5L VQ vs the CL was pretty close with the CL getting the edge. The new Max has 10 extra hp than the 03 so I guess the results make sense. It's basically a drivers race

oh come on, just having a little fun, dont be a little girl man
Referring to someone as a "little girl" because they think doing 120 in the middle of the night? Where I come from we refer to those individuals as intelligent.
But meh, the Maxima torque owns you from a standstill, and the high-end of the TL-S comes into play later.
with what the above person said, nothing we didn't already know about a TL-S/CL-S versus a 3.5L Maxima/Altima.

It's all in the gearing. If Honda didnt punk out and make two overdrive gears, then the TL/CL-S would be a highway killer. Imgaing 4th gear being shorter then it is now, the car would pull like hell. you could tell that the car wants to keep pulling, but when it hits 4th, its like hitting a brick wall.

And gearing ratios are fixed, the only thing the computer does is change tq converter stall speeds & lockup. The only way to change gearing is by changing tire height, changing tranny gear ratios, or by changing the final drive ratio.
