Congrats, Kurt and glad to hear she's been healthy despite getting the Coronavirus. Where she works, Heroes work there.
Here, where you work, Heroes work here.
Seriously though, I'm so against test driving one of these because I know I'll probably want one.

She tested 12 people for COVID-19 in the ER yesterday. 11 positive
Congrats Kurt!!! Test drove a Y last week as well and really liked it, felt like it had a good amount of headroom over the 3. I’m waiting to see what the 7 seat option looks like next year before making a decision.
I'm not sure how worried I am, she's a week post vaccine, but it's still just ridiculous.
As long as she has the proper PPE on and continues to practice good hand-washing post-patient, she should be okay. But it is frightening. For every "oh the symptoms are no big deal", you get a case of ICU...my friend's friend is sedated and in ICU right now. 30 years old. Healthy guy. Plays sports.
The Model Y is definitely an adjustment from the CR-V. It has most of the benefits of the 3 (it's fast, it's comfortable, and all the benefits of an EV are here, too). It maneuvers a hell of a lot better, is AWD, and has the autopilot system which is significantly better than the CR-V's. The blind spot monitoring is solid despite being unconventional. Dog mode is pretty critical, as we can get Enzo out of the house if we need to run errands and not worry too much about him. Overall, the CR-V is a significantly better dog carrier. If one of my dogs stands up in the Model Y, the rear is pretty much blocked, which isn't great. That being said, the cameras are easily accessible so the rear view isn't a huge problem.
Some has suggested there's no reason to have the 3 if the Y exists. While they have a ton in common, the 3 benefits in some key ways:
3 is significantly faster (I think about a half second without the performance boost)
3 handles better - The Y handles well and has the same effortless acceleration, but you can feel just how much bigger it is
3 is quite a bit more efficient
As far as the Y, there are some big improvements relative to my 3
The automatic lift gate (now available on the 3, but not on mine) is awesome and can be opened/closed remotely
The front trunk closes significantly easier
The double paned glass (now available on the 3) makes the Y quieter than my 3, although I do find it's still not quite as quiet as I would like
I’ve been looking at the 3 myself lately. It would balance my carbon footprint somewhat given I own a gas guzzler and another sports car, neither of which I’m giving up. I was thinking about a TLX Type S but need rear legroom. So...reports like this are helpful. Planning to test drive soon. It’ll be between this and a used RLX Sport Hybrid (part deux )
I care about my carbon footprint too... but I'm not going to do something so drastic as to buy an electric car. That's just emasculating.
I leave it to soyboys like Kurt to buy TWO electric cars to make up for my waste. I'm sure there's some dork with multiple Testlas that will more than make up for Bob's dino-burners. I second the "No Bob, No."
But I'm serious about being curious about the Model 3. I'd want the Long Range model. While not quite as quick or fast as the Performance model, it's fast enough for a daily driver. In any case, decision to be made in the spring.

Just pray you don't end up with one with the build quality of an 80's-era Yugo assembled by 15 drunken monkeys on a Friday.
Anyone give any thought to the fact that all these fast golf carts are gonna be shoved down our throats in the near future and they are ONE software update from being slow and tame for the sake of "public" safety once enough 16 year olds plow into walls.
That acceleration tho $2000 is way less than it cost me to twin turbo my NSX. I’d say that’s relatively cheap.

That’s one thing that’s kept me from buying a Tesla. I’m too spoiled by Honda quality. Even my Accord is just perfect so far. RLX Sport Hybrid is darned near perfect in build quality nowadays. I really like them, and used it’s the luxury bargain of the century so far.

Yes, I have. Scares me a little. Next thing you know, we’ll have full automatic cars. Personally, even if I go electric, I’m keeping at least one manual tranny car in the fleet until they tell me it’s against the law.

My main gripe about this kind of feature/"upgrade" is that the car already has the ability to do that built in from the factory...but you have to pay Tesla extra for the permission for them to let you use what the car's hardware is already made of...due to its high reliance on software. It's essentially a business model where they build it in and then if you have to use it..you gotta pay extra.
Imagine if the Hellcat cars came only standard with the black key and you had to pay extra to get access to the red key....similar situation and one that does not sit well with me at all. Or if you had to pay BMW/Mercedes/Audi/etc. extra to unlock the Sport+/Race modes in their driving software....
^^^^
I agree. That's annoying to me, too. I don't think this will last forever. Eventually, one or more of the larger manufacturers will catch up, and offer the performance without the upcharge, and competition will ensue. I hope.
I don't think it's drastically different than manufacturer-supported flash tunes on some cars. VW/Audi will warranty some APR tunes, Ford Performance had its own tunes at least for a while.
Not exactly the same, but not completely different either.

VW/Audi will not and do not warranty APR tunes. APR replaces the voided warranty with their own.

Not really IMO.
Like I said....the car already has the hardware fully capable..they make you pay extra to use what's built-in but is "locked" via software.
A very apt analogy, imo, is like buying a Hellcat. You get the black key....BUT to use the full 700+hp, you have to pay extra to FCA to get the red key. That would piss people off.
I guess it is more a marketing plot...
if they just unlocked it for all they wouldn't be able to cater to the few that need that feeling of superiority...
they get to look down on all the peasants that don't have the extra $2k and are slowwwwww
If they all had it they would all be assholes.
That actually might be an asshole detector.
Pretty shitty update. We had golfball hail yesterday and my wife had taken the Model 3 to the gym. Pretty much every panel is toast, along with all three pieces of glass (windshield, rear window, and glass roof).
I'm just beside myself, to be honest. I'm expecting to be without my car for weeks.

Oh damn dude. That sucks.
That feeling just watching this all unfold and you can't do anything must've been gut-wrenching. So, are you in a rental/loaner?
