FFS KURT: Tesla Edition
#281
I posted this summary elsewhere but I figured it would go here. I figure @Comfy and @#1 STUNNA would find it somewhat interesting.
For my trip to Richmond, I used A Better Route Planner to plan out the stops ahead of time and Tesla’s real world trip planner to determine how long we would be at each supercharger. We got in a groove where we would get to a super charger, plug in, and leave when the car said we would get to the next Supercharger with 15% battery.
Efficiency was mixed on highways at 75+mph so the range indication was a bit of a joke to be honest. Realistically, through mountains, cool weather, and rain I saw something around an average of 80% efficiency.
Bought a front trunk cooler which fit the car perfectly, and while the car did get kind of dirty on the trip, we hit some light rain on the way back which cleaned the car up nicely.
Overall, the superchargers were great. Exceptions being Texarkana (in the parking lot of the Olive Garden) and Wytheville, VA, where there were 6 stalls and 9 cars wanting to charge. Never had an issue with a Supercharger being iced out. The 250kW level 3 charger in Nashville was amazing going from 10 to 80% in less than 20 minutes.
Pro tips for any would-be travelers (we ran into issues with these on our trip)

Pro tips for any would-be travelers (we ran into issues with these on our trip)
- In a super charger stop, the super chargers are usually uniformally arranged with one exception, which is the towing charger which is designed to super charge a vehicle with a trailer. Don’t take it if you’re not charging and if the super charger is level 2, don’t take the stall with the same number as the towing charger
- Avoid taking a charger next to another car. This is for privacy and to avoid sharing cabinet power (for the Level 2 chargers, each cabinet charges two superchargers).
- Back into the spot if the charger is in the back of the parking spot

What's a front trunk cooler?
Is that for beers? Or for keeping the car batteries temp down during the extended usage?

Weird. So maybe I'm way overthinking it, but is it just like a passive Yeti cooler or does it plug in and actively cool?

And there's the Porsche Taycan...seeing more and more of these here. Must be nice to be rich.
Prior Design-modded version is neat.

Latest updates. The good Doctor decided she loved the Model 3 sooo much...
And she's had a rough year fighting COVID-19 (she just got the vaccine). To celebrate we picked up a Model Y. It's in the garage, we take it in for paint protection tomorrow. Meanwhile, got a bunch of accessories for Christmas.
And yes, boombox mode works on it

Now you just need the S and the X to complete the Tesla S3XY garage!
Can't believe you're saying that about ICE!! Man.....maybe that's the way of the future in few more years....
Congrats though. Didn't know your wife was a doc, that's awesome. Certainly helps with the bills

After market key card holder.
I should also mention that's not the OEM color for the center console door thing. That's an aftermarket cover because the OEM is piano black which is awful.
For the 3, I actually went white, which I like but don't love, TBH. The white shows all the imperfections.

Not my car though. That's definitely hers.
My wife's job has been an interesting thing. When I think about what she does, I can't imagine doing that in normal times, let alone in a pandemic. It helps pay the bills (aka her salary pays all the bills and my salary goes into retirement) but she definitely earns it.

You'll have a comfortable retirement life, I think. Did the First Lady consider the Ford or even Audi e-cars?

For the e-tron:
Audi is a very comfortable roadtripper but this car will also have dogs in it frequently. She didn't want to put the dogs in an Audi.
For the Ford:
The Mach-E is going to be hard to get an dealers are going to demand a huge premium
We're going to road trip the Y which we would prefer leverage the supercharger network

Such a Kurt move.
When you gonna fuck off to Applecarzine.com and let the grown-ups keep talking about real cars here?
