Fender Vent trend?

Has anybody been noticing an increase in those fake Fender Vents recently?

Here's a link of them if you don't know what I'm talking about.

I've seen them on hoopties, old work vans and trucks, and little econoboxes. And there has been a big increase in sightings in the past month or so.

I wonder if its just a Houston thing or this is the new nationwide trend? I seriously see 3-4 a day on the freeway now.

BTW I in no way like these things. I'm just shocked at how fast them seemed to have caught on around here. I did a search for fender vents and nothing came up.

But I guess this would be better in car talk then ramblings. Sorry

On anything other than late '40's/early '50's Buicks, second generation Firebirds, and '87 Buick GNX's they tend to look a little weird.

HAH! You have no idea... these seem to be popular within the minority groups (excluding asians) here.... They put them on everyfuckingthing! Especially if it's a ghetto cruiser with 98 inch wheels on it, it's like standard equipment. Hell I'm almost shocked when I see a regular buick with them (OEM).

If I put those on my Type-S, how many WHP do I gain. I do it for 20 .... uhm, 10. I'd do it, if I got 10 more WHP.

Anybody know?

My GE clothes dryer has a side vent, but I wouldn't put in the same category as an Aston Martin...

They are functional on all of the above except maybe the caddys..

I've seen them increase in popularity around here. It's sad because there is a really nice orange hemi charger w/ tasteful wheels etc around here and he had to go and ruin it with those vents

it's definitely an epidemic in north TX. Seemed like all of a sudden they were on every third car.

they have maid it to the cali they are everywere. the funny thing is is that nobody seems to know the true meaning of the vents. they were used to designate engine size. I.E. 3 vents on each fender ment a V6, 4 means V8 so on and so forth. it just bugs the shit out of me when i see a civic rolling with those damn vents on the fender. they are everywere.

Wow cool. I didn't know that. Was this for a specific manufacturer that followed this? Because cars that legitimately have fender vents (BMW M3, etc) don't seem to follow any pattern. I guess the only exception is Buick.
