Valentine if you have $400

Escort 8500....if you dont have the $$$ for the Valentine

But I've been proven that the Valentine works much better and sometimes the Valentine picked up true KA bands when the 8500 didnt...

Plus less errors w/ the Valentine and it has arrows, which is a big help!

The 8500 & the V1 are about the same in performance. In my tests anyway since I had both. The V1 seemd to have a little better range on K. The other bands were the same. Falses are subjective since it matters which mode you have each detector in. I use the all mode on both so I get all the falses. I rather it false & let me decide if it's a threat then the unit. The major difference is the V1's directional arrows. These help ALOT. Is it worth the extra $100 or so? That's up to you. I think so. The other features are also about the same. A few differences. The 8500 does track multiple threats in expert mode just like the V1. The 8500 I think is easy to read since it does display the band it picks up as X, K KA LASER. The V1 only has a little led light nexy to the band, but the band lettering is not lit up. Makes it a little hard to pick up what band at night. All you have is the audio alert.
The solo is the cordlees unit? If so you don't want that. Cordless units will not work as well no matter what brand. That's their weakness.
