Drift: S14 240SX vs. Supra MKIV

Which would you think is better for drift? It's about time for me to start looking for a new car and I'm really getting into the drift scene so I'm looking to build a drift car that's still usable as a daily driver since I don't have the funds to keep 2 cars around. Opinions please

I vote for the 240, but I really dont know what would be better. Dont a fair number of drifters use 240's because they are good for drifting????

you'll be fine with either, supras can drift if tuned right, but lately i havent really been seeing them as much at drifting competitions. i think for you, you should pick which car you like more.

i thought the 240s were good for drifting becuase of their 50/50 weight ratio. not quite sure about the supras.

Don't even know where you can legally drift... you have to practice doing that somewhere. Stick with the AutoX

But if you want a real drifters car, get the 240... it's cheaper.. and remember the sr20det isn't God's gift to man. For the people I know that did the swap, they were pretty pissed that since it's a JDM motor everytime something wen wrong it took twice as long and twice as much to fix it.

240 for wt and price. Supra MKIV still demands a hefty price...although I have noticed 240's going up in value in recent times.

both are WAY overpriced.

I think the supra overall is a better car, and you will own a timeless classic (just don't crash it)
the 240 will still be cheaper, but still for what it is, it's overpriced. buy yea it's probably better at drifting.

i say save for a used GTO, and drift like rhys millen.

never heard of Formula D??

theyre everywhere these days.

240SX is the way to go. there are FARRR more cheaper parts everywhere, so if you crash, at least you know it wont burn your pockets in TOOO deep.

Overpriced, you can buy a 240 for like 3K

BTW, Rhys's shop just built a KILLER 240, and their GTO runs full custom fabricated suspension, including diff, etc. Sweet car though

240sx IS NOT overpriced. i dont know where youre looking for the sx's but i can find them anywhere for under 3000 with not too high of miles. most of them are like a few hundreds under KBB no matter where you look.

supra's are slightly overpriced because those were what everyone wanted back then and still do. but even at that time it costed around 35k. getting one now is also hard too because of its rarity, even back then it was hard to get the top of the line ones.

and i dont get why we're going from a 240/supra (which are like 10-15 year old cars) to the GTO. which obviously will cost far more money than the 240/supras. the GTO only came out two years ago and there's no way you'll find one under 10K's..

if he's comaring supra vs. 240, i'm assuming he wants a 97-98, which still go for in good condition easily over 12k

my friend had a 95' 240 w/ over 100k mi, and sold it for like 6k
i've even seen people try and get over 10k for like early 90's 240's w/ the SR20.

but i guess if it's gonna be like a project car, you can find 240's for really cheap and fix them up. Supras wiill still be very hard to find for under 15k or even 20k. all the mkiv's i've seen w/ a manual are over 20k

Yeah, to me drift car and daily driver don't go together. Chances are you will crash the car (I don't mean total, but do some sort of damage) when drifting, especially as a novice. However, if you are willing to take the risk I would say 240 like most people because of the cheaper price on the car and parts.

wow....thanks everyone for all the responses

i've already had some runs with my friends rps13 and its pretty hard to crash in a big open parking lot with very minimal light poles(but enough to see the pavement) so i dont think crashing will be a problem. as for damaging the car...probably some damage to the suspension system sooner or later. and sorry for not clarifying but yea i was talking about the kouki(97-98) s14 vs. MK IV.

as expected every seems to think that the 240 is better for the weight and price.

now does everyone think the supra is a better overall car? cuz ive been looking around and i like the supra better as a car but the 240 better as a drifter from the research ive been doing. and realistically i dont/wont go drifting often, maybe once a month. and im thinking the supra would be more fun to take on the roads normally but i dont know if it is that capable to drift.

theres always some kind of risk involved in pretty much everything you do, it's just a matter of whether you have the balls to do it or not. so i guess its just a risk im goin to have to take now im not here to discuss the safety of drifting. just cars and how they would perform in a drift. by the way, if it was in sd, chances are i was probably there watching.

Then you would know the crash I was talking about, and you would take the suggestion of a RWD corolla.

240 with red top sr20 swap... supras are dope cars but very expensive to build and maintain. the 240 is alot cheaper and easy to find.. but there is no such thing as a cheap drift car

no doubt the RWD corolla is a great car for drift, but the fact is i still have to drive it around normally. And with a car that old, im just afraid there would be even more trouble than i can handle. that and its not really my style. im not going to be building an all out drift car but as of now im liking the 240. anyway thanks for the input everyone.

it all depends on if you wanna spend 2-5k for the 240 or 20-40k for a supra....

I say if you're gonna drop the bucks like for a Supra MKIV go for a used M5. I was on Autotrader 30-40 k range for the 97s or 98s but they were pretty nice looking with low mileage.you can get in a 2000 M5 with about 50k on it for the same amount of bucks plus it has almost 400 hp (394 hp) from the factory you don't have to worry about turbo spool speed. it's all motor

M5 is too big and heavy for drifting seriously would be my guess.

If the corrolla isnt your style, then go for the 240...I just see so many damn ricers and posers banging around in them in so cal.

Everyone's been jacking up the prices on 240s and parts because it's become popular in the drift scene. Compared to when my friend had an S13 just at the beginning of the trend, things have become overpriced in my opinion. Everyone wants more now for the same thing.

yeah thats true but the parts and cost of the car are still WAY cheaper for a 240 drift car than a supra drift car. And if your just learning to drift you are going to trash the car so go with the cheaper one first. Unless you have about 80-100k to lose building a supra drift car.

240 is famous for drifting, however, as suggested a RWD corolla is a good starter drifting car.
