do I wait and do a "2 for 1" or do 1 at a time

Okay here's the deal.
our family(my wife and I) has 3 cars.
we got a 98 Ford Contour paid off with about 120 k on it ( I know it sucks. she had it a while before she married me) runs fine
a 94 Accord 300 k on it. It's paid off. It's my work car. runs fine
a 2000 Odyseey with about 150 k on it. It's paid off. it's my family car/ weekend take my drunk ass friends out in car. runs fine
now there's the thing. I know I'm gonna have to replace 2 the Accord and the Contour in the next 4-5 years due to mileage. now I'm gonna sell the Accord and the Contour cash out.(meaning private sale whatever I can get from them that's cool.) now, do I pull the trigger on a 08 Accord( I don't like the current body style) and wait on the Odyseey. for a couple years. or do I do a "2 for 1" deal where I get the Odyseey and Accord together. I'm leaning toward the "2 for 1" deal due to the fact. my current cars are paid off and they run fine so I might as well keep running them. just give me your input. thanks gentlemen.

why not just run all the cars until they quit if you're fine with them?

no point in trying to sell the accord or the contour since the contour is over 100k miles with shit resale and the accord at 300k miles, you won't get any money for them (maybe $300-$500 each?).

Also, with a possible new house purchase in the future (if all things work out inside the home), it'll just be more cash out of your pocket that wasn't a necessity.

yeah I was thinking about a new Touring with Navi and drop down DVD player for my daughter. I'm fine with the Contour and Accord. the Accord cheap as hell on insurance. plus this will give her time to get some damn points off her record(10 points)(she has 2 wrecks and 3 tickets on it right now. one more wreck or accident they'll pull her lisence for a year.) if I put her on a new 40 grand van and she has that many points on her record the insurance company will have a "hay day" with me.

Drive them until they die...especially with how many miles you put on them. Your new vehicles will depreciate quickly so they wont be easy to get your money on if you need to sell. (ie: divorce).

Exactly. You will be lucky to get any money for an Accord with 300,000 on it. If you say it drives fine, keep it.

JHC Water, don't you have enough problems at home? Work out your family issues, then worry about buying the next car, tractor, farm tool.

Someone needs to come out to Ohio and bitchslap you a few times.

Any new car you buy will depreciate more the moment you drive it off the lot than the sum of what these two cars are worth. If it runs just keep driving it.

fuck it I'm done posting on acurazine.
first of all we've worked on our relationship.
second of all if I didn't ask anything about the relationship. it was strightly car/ money related.
third of all you make fun of me cause I'm a farmer. I presume you guys ate today. most of that stuff just doesn't magically jump into the packaging that most companies put their product in. it hs to be grown and processed.
last of all:I wish you guys luck. this is the second time y'all have majorly pissed me off and I've left.
I was gonna tell you guys information on the 2008 Accord I found out last night but hell with it.

While some people are giving you shit most of the comments are the truth (with info YOU have given us). Whether or not you like it is not our concern.

Derek, there's no shame in being a farmer, a firefighter or whatever. And even though it isn't what everyone wants, my guess is that there are quite a few of us who would see parts of farming as nearly ideal (eg: working your own hours, not having to report to anyone, living on several hundred acres, and getting to work with cool equipment like tractors). Besides, it looks like you and your family have saved up quite a bit. If you now own the farm outright them you have also built a fairly valuable business.

Sure, there are always going to be a few people on any forum who make fun of you or trash your ideas about buying a new car. But that's what can be expected when you bounce ideas off people in a web forum. Anyway it doesn't necessarily mean their advice is that bad.

With regard to your cars, if they both run great drive 'em into the ground. It looks like you drive many miles per year and that any new car you buy will depreciate quickly from all the mileage you rack up. The cars you are driving now aren't going to lose much if any value if you were to put a another hundred thousand miles on each of them. The same can't be said for a brand new Accord or Odyssey.

I don't know if you'll be back to read this, but I'd like to say that most people here like you around (I enjoy reading your posts for one). Some people don't, however.

You can't go around in life expecting everyone to treat you nicely or respect you. How do you think I made it this far? I can guarantee you that people made fun of me for who I AM many times more and WAY worse than they've made fun of you. You just have to learn how to ignore it.

ps. Keep the Accord, get rid of the Escort and buy an 08 Accord if you like it. It's too expensive to buy 2 new vehicles at once.

fwiw, if you are going to buy a new car take a look at a Civic Si instead of the 4 cylinder Accord. IMO it looks better, and probably handles better and gets better mileage too.

You have worked out your relationship, and you'll realize that when this all bites you in the ass.

No one has made fun of you for being anything other then a little slow.

If you want to act like this, then be my guest and take off again. You are just showing your young age, and the fact as to why you need to be taking care of family shit instead of thinking how to fuck up your financial life as well...which appears to be in good order.

You think my post was a joke? no. I'm serious. Get your shit together with that waste of flesh you call a wife and the worry about spending money on cars.

Later.

Isn't this what you wanted to do?

I guarantee you'll be a LOT happier doing a job that you love like farming!

yeah I'm happier however the money isn't as much there. plus the benefits are where Honda's are. However i don't have to wear uniforms(i wear blue jeans and a t-shirt to work every day) my boss is only 4-5 years older than me so talking to him like talking to a big brother. plus I like working Overtime to a point. at Honda they wouldn't give me overtime. it was basically 40 hours and you're done for the week. at where i'm at now they don't care how many hours of Overtime you put in as long as you are either cleaning, training, doing production or something like that. my first week there I put in 55 hours. went to my boss and asked him "look do you mind me working all these hours because I know the company has to make budget." he laughed and said "nope have fun Derek." what I meant by pressure at Honda was. we had to get so many cars out in an so much time and they wouldn't give us Overtime if stuff broke down or parts weren't line side. the coordinator(which was my boss) which i think he would expect a penguin to fly through a hurricane in Miami. like if a robot or machine was down for an hour he'd say well why couldn't you "make it up" through out the night. well you can only run a machine so fast. and when I can't fix the machine and equipment service is over there working on it for an hour I can't run it that's just an hour of time you lost.

bottom line: my boss was a giant douche bag.

You made the right descision then. I know what it's like to work for a boss who puts insane pressure on you. I hate it. I'm doing it now but it only has to last for 4 months. Overly tight deadlines are terrible.

It would have been at least "okay" if it was short term like you said for 4 months. because I knew there was light at the end of the tunnel. but he never let up. every day when I was there he'd bitch and moan about how shit isn't getting done in a reasonable amount of time. I'd always say "if the machines wouldn't break we'd meet the your expectations." he'd say "well you should meet them anyhow." If you watch American Chopper. it kind of reminded of Paul jr and Paul Sr. Paul Sr always bitching that Paul jr not working enough or hard enough.

I know Paul Sr is Paul jr's dad but after awhile of his dad always bitching to him of not getting shit done in a certain amount of time. I would have taken my tools loaded up the truck and said the hell with you dad i'm opening my own shop have fun.
