In no way have I made a decesion about buying the Buick. I've decided to wait until the Detroit or Toronto Auto shows and then make a decesion. But my wife liking it is the most important factor. If I buy a beater or something she doesn't like, the TSX is hers. I buy something she likes the TSX is mine so its an important decesion.
So to answer your question, will I be driving it? If we buy a Rendezvous or CR-V only once in a while.

Only because resale on GM's is so low. And if I'm forced to buy American I'd rather have a GM. More relaible (I think) and parts and mechanics are simply everywhere.

Perhaps I'm better off buying a beater tha gets me through the year or so of getting to work while my wife is home. and then when the second kid hopefully arrives we spring for an Ody
Some suffering now for the Ody later.

Ford and Chrysler both are terrible.

Yeah if you two are planning on having another kid, then that is a good idea to get a beater now and save for the Ody later. Plus you will need all the room you can get with two children.
Maybe you should start looking at used Accords.

Reading all of this stuff about how all of these poeple need all of this space with one or two kids makes me wonder how my family survived with just a Civic and 2 kids.

And to be honest I don't know if I'll need the space either. My parents raised 3 kids on a 2 door Pontias Le Mans V8 and a F-150 reg cab. Contstantly being told you'll need a minivan and tons of space and I guess you start to believe it
The again, Progress is progress and fact is its easier to load kids into minivans than it is a sedan. Larger door opening and no crouching down. Not a nessisity just makes life easier as if we don't have things easy enough.

Those are definently advantages but door opening on minivans are most definently larger than on a sedan and vans are also higher off the ground. Only reason I brought up those two points is because I've had people who own minivans specify those two points as an advantage.

I guess it depends on how much I spend on a beater. What defines a beater anyway? Less than 5K, less than 7K? Or around 1 to 2K
domn, who doubts he can drive a beater.

Ok..., I think you need to first figure out exactly what you're looking for in this car.
I think getting a used car of any sort for a year is definitely your best way to go. If it's just going to be a basic transport to and from work, figure out just how much money you're willing to give up in the year and pic a car based on that (i.e. if you're okay with losing $1000 dollars, look for cars that will likely depreciate about that much within the course of the year). Plus, if you trade it in for a new Ody, then getting something new is definitely a waste of money.

Now I know why CR-V prices remain so high.
All the CR-V's I was looking at:
03 LX w/23k I offered 25K for - Sold
02 LX w/17k I offered 25k for - Sold
02 EX w/55k I didn't get a chance to make an offer - Sold
02 EX w/49K Just saw listed on Thursday - Sold
03 EX w/4xK The one that was damaged - Sold
They sell.

Not sure I want to go that route. But if I were, it would make sense for me to buy something that cost 1 or 2k. Something to get me through the year. Problem is, not sure I can drive a beater like that.
Lemme do some searching.

I'm suggesting to buy a $5000 car that will be worth $4000 next year. You can then trade it in on the Ody or sell it for cash to use on the Ody. It's just a matter of how much money you want to lose. If you'll willing to take a bigger hit in depreciation, you could buy a $10,000 car that will be worth $8250 in a year.

If you are looking for a cheap beater, than I would stay away from used Hondas and Toyotas. You will find that you are spending comparable money for one as the CR-Vs you were looking at. If you are only planning on keeping this vehicle for one year, then I wouldnt spend more than $7000 USD.
A GM vehicle may be the way to go.

Maybe I'll go see this one. 25K on the road is what I'd offer if its in good shape. Its a private sale so only the one 8% tax applies. Has new snow tires and the extended warranty which is nice.

Its an 2002 EX w/49k. Listed at $19,900 obo and again its private so only the one tax. Problem, I hate that light blue color and the price is unusually low which makes me wonder why? I could get this thing for $20,500 on the road for certain.

, are you sure this is what you want? Do you not want to wait to get an Ody in a couple of years? What about interior room? When you have two kids, is that going to be big enough for the four of you?

I don't know what the hell I want
I think the CR-V is plenty even with two kids. The key is, the CR-V has been and still is my wife's car of choice. You weren't around two years ago DEI but just before I bought the TSX I was very, very close to getting an CR-V. We decided on the TSX with the plan to get a CR-V when we had a kid so this was the original plan. The cost of the damn things is the only problem.

Well if your wife wants one, then looks like you are getting one. Why not get a beater now to save up for a brand new CR-V in a year or two?

Ya, that blue is simply a non starter for me so its out.
Going into this I decided I wanted to buy a used car. I've never bought used before and I figure I'll be saving quite a bit of money. So waiting and buying new just doesn't sound appealing to me especially when I have to drop another 35 to 40K like I did on the TSX. I came into this thread saying this "I'm looking to spend ~$20K CAD."
25K is alot more than ~ 20K so I'm back to being
And DEI, I'll come pick you up and soon as I get whatever it is I'm getting
