domn,
why the cr-v is leading the pack in votes, I dont know. But what I do know, and personally feel, is that the CR-V is a civic that sits high off of the road with AWD. Its really a wimpy car.
leading second in votes is the chevy equinox. While I haven't gotten to ride in one, I would say that it is underpowered. Take a look at the numbers. It also has those played out tail lights as well
Now look at the jeep liberty, it has a great V6 engine (although it isn't friendly on gas) with 210HP and 235 trq. If you ever wanted to tow anything with some significant weight, you can do it with this. Whereas the cr-v will have problems with that 4 cyl. The jeep also has legendary offroad capability, but how often do you use it? I for one like to know that the capability exists. PLUS winters are SO fun in that thing.
take any opinion you like, but the liberty IMO is the best of the small ute group.
DCYamaha, who has a bias towards jeep because he has a 2004 liberty.

The ONLY thing that bothers me about the Liberty is the fuel consumption. I really like the styling and space but is it ever a pig on gas (According to the numbers)
But then again, I'm a fisherman and I'd like to eventaully buy a small alluminum boat and I will need something to tow with so.......
Any thoughts on the Rodeo?

Clutch, who can't see fishing for some reason...
Edit: On topic: I bet the Rodeo's gas mileage is almost as bad as the Liberty's. I remember DC promising to come out with a diesel Liberty. Whatever happened to that?
Edit again: HERE it is! I'd actually like to have something like that....

BTW - I have 3 cars lined up to go see tommorow.
An Silver 2002 V6 4x4 Escape XLS w/55k $17,995, The Rodeo and an 02 Blk CR-V EX w/55k $23,995.
The CR-V is a private sale meaning only the 8% provincial tax applies which will save me some $$.

Thanks for the link Dave, quite helpful. A freind of mine also mentioned the only negative is the city MPG and judging by the comments on that page most agree.

So I didn't go see any of those used vehicles I had planned. Just decided to hold out awhile longer and wait for the perfect CR-V deal.
But I did end up going to my local Toyota dealership on Saturday. I spent an hour and a half there talking with a saleman and going over the Matrix with a fine tooth comb. What I learned is there is definently enough space in there for what we need and its a pretty versitile car. But a new Base Matrix is between 24-25K on the road while I thought I could have got it for 23K. I was also dissapointed with the interior fit and finish/build quality. Maybe its not fair to comapre it to the TSX but I felt like i was in a Kia after just getting out of my TSX and sitting in the Matrix. Considering its built alongside the Corolla which has a great interior I was surprised.

About that rodeo...
A friend of mine had a Rodeo. I rode in it a couple of times and honestly, it's pretty bad. Ride motion makes you feel like you're in a boat (it rocked back and forth on the springs) and it sucked gas like there was no tomorrow. If you're going to look into a Rodeo, be sure to get an extended warranty as well because you'll likely need it.
Of course, this could all just be because my friend got a bad one, so who knows.

Rodeo is off the shopping list. City gas mileage is bad from what I read and its more than I need. The questinable realiability and what I think are limited parts supply here in Canada because of limited and now non-existent sales in Canada is also a factor.
The wife wants a CR-V plain and simple. We got the TSX becuase I wanted it so now I think its only fair to get what she wants.
She likes the Matrix as well but its comes down to this, new 05 Matrix for ~ 25K or used 02-03 CR-V for ~25K ??

Is the warranty for the CR-V transferrable in Canada?

What do you mean? If I buy used will it have warranty? As long as its still covered by the maufactuers warranty, then yes its transferred to the new owner.
Works the same with extended warranty. If I can find one with the Extended 100,000km warranty its a bonus.

I was at the Toyota dealer for 1 1/2hours and didn't even test drive one. We were too far apart on $$$ so I didn't even bother.

The XRS with the Celica GTS motor required so many revs to get it going, it was ridiculous (and this is from someone coming from a 97 Integra) and I won't even tell you how bad the the XR was.
If they bumped the engine up to the old RAV4 2.0L, then it might be something to consider.

Acceleration and performance is the least of my worries. As long as it performs like a Corolla or Civic I'll be perfectly happy.
Utility/Baby Hauling/MPG are my main concerns.

You joke but I just might do that. 05 Vbe's have a cash incentive on now. $20,998 + taxes.
And we like the styling of the Vibe over the Matrix.

As long as its close. I'm really not worried about performance. Then again, I havn't driven one yet so we'll see....

I can see the downfall in gas mileage though with the jeep. I have one, and it is a guzzler for its size. From near empty its about $30.00 U.S. with todays prices.

OK, well I still think what you really want is a nice little wagon. <insert jedi mind trick hand wave> These are not the utes you're looking for.
What about a Mazda 3 Sport (MSRP starts @ ~ $20K) or a used P5? Both of those look like they have more usable rear storage room than the MatriVibe.

Not sure about the Mazda 3 Sport but a Protege 5 does not have as much room as a Matrix/Vibe, not even close.
3 Sport, I've looked into. Problem is $$$ GS Cloth = $20,285 + $1000 AT + $1000 AC = $26,691 OTR.
And in my experience with Mazda delaers who wouldn't bugde on Mazda 3 Sedan GX pricing, I doubt there's much room to move there.
And major, your jedi mind tricks don't work on me, especially when talking wagon's

No, but thanks for asking. It seems the only source I have is the Autotrader which is updated once a week on Thursdays and the Delaer Auto Mart mags that also come out once a week (I think Mondays)
I should be able to find something by April, if I can't then I'm obviously looking at the wrong car.
And there is still the one 02 CR-V EX with 55K that I was supposed to go see on Saturday, I figure if I take a chance by hoping it doesn't sell and wait another week or two before going to see it, he'll be willing to bend more on the price.

If you give me some websites to go to or know of any used car places that you want to check out and dont have time for, then let me know and I can do some research for you.
