Crazy accident down the block from my house last night...

Flatbush Hatzolah was on the scene in seconds, and reported one victim in traumatic arrest, with 2 others trapped in the wrecked vehicle. The impact was so intense, that the entire engine of one of the vehicles involved (a BMW) was thrown a few hundred feet away (see photos). The FDNY and NYPD’s Emergency Services Units were needed to use the Jaws Of Life to extricate the victims.

The victim who died, was taken by Hatzolah to Coney Island Hospital where he was pronounced dead. The others were all removed to local Trauma Centers, and are expected to live.

The NYPD’s Accident Investigation Team was called to the scene, and the street was closed for traffic, and will probably remain closed for hours.

There was no word on what caused the crash, which occurred at a high rate of speed.

Misaskim services were not needed in this tragic incident.

Further details will be published when they are available to us.

FYI - Hatzolah is a Jewish volunteer ambulance service...

The cars literally exploded to pieces. The engine and one of the wheels complete with full suspension from the BMW was on one side of the street, and the car was on the other side of the street 200 feet away. The person in the minivan (Ford Windstar) did not make it.

Few pics I took...

This was the BMW and one of the wheels. The other wheel was next to the engine about a hundred feet away.

What are "Misaskim services"? What was the closing speed of the vehicles? Guessing well over 120.

Damn. Surprised only one person died though.

And do y'all use TL's as rescue vehicles? Saw one with lights at the 28 second mark...

It's another Jewish volunteer service. They provide aid and assistance to families that lost a loved one. Whether it's assisting in burial, or helping with food or supplies for a house of mourning, they provide it. My guess that they are saying that the services weren't needed is because the person that died isn't Jewish. And it's not because they aren't Jewish that they aren't helping, it's because they go by the Jewish laws and customs for burial and mourning that they can't help in this situation. Hatzolah on the other hand, they help anyone and everyone. My brother is a volunteer of this service, I started taking courses for it years ago but never finished it. They are all over the place and you would never know it. They get to the scene in usually 2-3 minutes, whereas a NYC ambulance would get there at least 5-10 minutes later. There's also another organization called Shomrim, also volunteers, and they assist in neighborhood patrols and in situations like this.

As far as speed, I have no idea. From what I heard, the BMW was travelling South at a high rate of speed, probably lost control and ended up slamming head on into the minivan which was travelling North. There was an E39 BMW with his hazard lights hanging out there, from what I heard, he may have witnessed the whole thing and stuck around to report what happened. The website I linked is the only site that posted the incident. I haven't seen it anywhere else yet.

All of the civilian vehicles you see around the area with or without lights flashing when you saw them are volunteers from Hatzolah.

Damn

I can't even comprehend how fast the cars must have been going for pieces to fly around like that. and thank God no bystanders were hurt by the flying parts.

Agree that no one should have to deal with this.

No reason for that kind of speed outside of the Autobahn and / or a track.

It was a 23yr old college student in the van that died

Brooklyn college student was killed in a head-on collision with a speeding motorist who lost control of his high-end sports car late Saturday, police sources and witnesses said.

The victim, Jamal Iqbal, 23, was driving his Ford Windstar minivan north on Ocean Parkway in Sheepshead Bay near Avenue X around 11:45 p.m. when he was slammed head-on by a black BMW M6.

The 26-year-old driver of the BMW was speeding south on Ocean Parkway when he lost control of his vehicle and spun out, veering into Iqbal’s lane, according to cops and witnesses.

It seems like the craziest (and often most tragic) accidents happen in Brooklyn, Queens and the Bronx. .....I'm still trying to make sense of the accident last week in the Bronx......not to mention my son's potentially fatal accident in that E60 M5 in Queens a couple of years ago.
