C'mon Acura! WTF?!

Hello all,

I know I am rather new to the Azine family, but I have admired the design of Acuras in the past. I recently bought my first Acura, an 05 TL, and I absolutely love it. I mean let's be honest, we all love these cars or we wouldn't be members of this forum and talk about them constantly.

Now we all know that in the past couple of years Acura's design team has taken a new route in car designing, and many have become skeptical about the 4G TLs and the brand new ZDX just to name two. It has become clear that a lot of people are either indifferent or flat out disgusted by the new designs. I am one who is flat out disgusted. I mean, seriously? You're gonna fatten up the sleek and sexy TL, raise the grill so it's above the headlights, and also put a beak on it?? Really?!! And you're gonna take that 4G TL design, put a lift kit on it, flatten the trunk, and name it the ZDX?!!!! Really?!!!!! WTF, Acura??!!! That car's going to sell well...

What really throws me off is the grill, and it seems like EVERYONE HATES IT. I guess Acura is trying to make some sort of statement, like "When you see a car coming at you with a big ass oversized grill on the front, you know it's an Acura." Like the TSX for instance. It's a sweet little car, but the huge ass grill on the front just throws that polished look that previous Acuras possessed just right out the window. Same with the RL - nice car, big ass beak on it. Sweet. But seriously, props to RonJon for taking the necessary steps in helping out what the auto designers screwed up. His stuff really does improve the TL's look.

Now for Acura, and I hope that some representative or designer or any main office worker for that matter gets a hold of this post and reads that the majority of Azine members HATE THE NEW DESIGN. So Acura, do what you can to fix this. Fast. Or we're all switching to BMWs.

Peace.

The new designs are very disappointing. The TSX doesn't look half bad but the TL, RL, ZDX are :thumbsdow. I think my next car will be a BMW if not a 3rd Gen TL.

hilarious and couldn't agree more

I hear ya Steve. I can't stand the look of the 4th gen TL and the new ZDX is an absolute joke. It seems like the designers were going for the futuristic/Transformers look. I like the movie but wouldn't want a car that looks like it'll transform. I've owned a 2nd and 3rd generation Integra and now I have an '06 TL. This one's been my favorite so far although I do miss the manual '95 GSR Anyhow as much as I've enjoyed the overall experience with Acuras, I'm ready to try something different that doesn't rattle so much and the 4th generation of Acuras is reinforcing that decision.

The new TSX isn't bad though...

Right. Out of all the cars in the lineup, the TSX is the most "modestly redesigned." I totally agree with you.

no. weve just been bitching about it since then.

acura is relaly behind the game and its almost like acuras are a stepping stone into BMW's.

i find myself wanting a bimmer more and more.

RWD
FI
Nice wheels stock
low fender gap
timeless design.

everything acura no longer has or has never had

I agree...I bought an 09 TSX for less than the price of a base Accord (manager demo) and i know im definately happier with this car than i would have been with the dime a dozen Accord...but im kinda getting sick of the grille, it looks even uglier from far away...still waiting on HeelToe or RJ to come out with a replacement

He pretty much means this is an old topic that we have been discussing on the forum for years. If you do a search you will be able to see a ton of similar discussions.

+1, this has been beaten to death, over and over again. we get it, acura makes ugly cars now. If in need of a nicer looking car, look elsewhere

I am more disappointed with Acura for dropping red for Manual transmission tsx's or tl's, not the grille

I'm fairly sure you can get a 6 speed handshaker in the '10 TL and the TSX.

BTW, CT Engineering (comptech) also has an aftermarket grill option for the TSX.

I blame the ever-changing/flip-flopping business strategies...

But, that being said, a very polarizing design sure shouldn't be a symptom of that.

I think Acura designers decided to put something out there that would get people talking about it, whether good or bad. After many years of people saying that Honda/Acura puts out generic, forgettable designs, Acura finally puts something bold on the market and gets people talking about it (never mind that its negative).
I personally think the grille looks the best on the TSX because it goes up to the headlights, not past them as on the other models. But since its inception, the 4G TL started to grow on me. I love "the shield" on my mom's 08 MDX, but the '10 MDX doesnt look so good with the redesigned nose are fog light surrounds.

I remember when Audi just came out with their huge opening grille people didn't like it either, but after a year or two they started to warm up to the design.

That's the thing though... is it really polarizing? Unless you mean, polarizing between Acura brass and the rest of the world. Because the best thing I've heard about it from anyone else is "it's not that bad."

I am fully aware that this has been a topic that we have all discussed NUMEROUS times now; I'm just a little pissed off that when it comes time to upgrade I'll have to either stick with '08 TLs or go elsewhere. I just really want to know what was Acura thinking when they put this new design out on the market? And also what does Acura think about all the countless complaints? I mean, some dealers are starting to just color match the grilles to the rest of the car. Doesn't this kinda slap Acura in the face (which it definitely should)? I don't know. I just can't wait to see the direction Acura goes AFTER this generation of cars.

O man, not another thread about this.

Solutions:
Keep your current Acura till the wheels fall off--a distinct possibility for many given Acura's excellent reliability

Use the Acura as a stepping stone to a BMW or V8/RWD car (raises hand)

I think Acura is supporting the trend toward keeping your current Acura/other car for longer by introducing the current lineup.

*waits for Collin to come in and defend Acura*

+1E100000000000000000 in agreement with the OP the 3rd gen TL and 1st gen TSX were the LAST good looking cars from Acura...... the grill fix makes the 2nd gen TSX the only current goodlooking car from Acura......
