Classic/old school car owners

What's going on everyone, I'm slowly getting back to Azine, especially now since the app is up and running.

So I have a question, I'm looking for a father son project truck, my dad and I have always wanted to do one but never had the chance. Now that I have a kid of my own I want to go ahead an get started on one.

Does anyone know of any database websites for old school cars. I'm looking for a 67-72 C10 or a 66 ford f100. I really don't want to ship, just because I won't be able to check out the car and it could possibly have tons of rust. I would probably end up borrowing a flat bed and picking the truck up depending on how far it is from Sacramento. (Probably only want to drive 500-600 miles one way knowing the condition)

Any info would be appreciated, if anyone has bought an older car.

Kevin

I look at classics through Hemmings. They do have a large quantity of F100's and a 117 C10's. Best of luck to you!

I would also go with Hemmings. I would ensure you ABSOLUTELY check out the vehicle prior to purchase. If you can't personally, or you can't send someone that you really trust that knows what to look for, I would not buy it. Do not waste your time or money if you cannot see it in person. Pictures of a vehicle are useless. I can make my cars look like show winners with pictures. The truth is, they are far from it. Educate yourself with what to look for with a particular model. Frames prone to rotting? Where? Sheetmetal hard to find? Is there any aftermarket support?

I have two 73-77 Olds A bodies. There is no aftermarket support for these cars. Parts are extremely difficult to acquire. It has gotten better over the years as the popularity is slowly increasing. In perspective, if I had a 68-72, I could build an entire car out of a catalog.

I have seen too many people get burned thinking they are getting something they are not. I know a guy with 69 Coronet that he has way more money in than he should, because it was not what he thought. Truly beware. I haven't been seeing it with trucks, but there are a lot more 1969 Z/28s and 70 Chevelle SS454s out there now, than were built. Shady people are swapping VIN numbers and body tags, etc.

I always wanted to pick up a 70 Challenger R/T to do with my father. Unfortunately, you see quite a bit of shadiness with those old Mopars.

I'm sure there are also older truck forums that might be able to get you some good leads. (Clearly not as informative as us though...lol)

Good luck!

Good info, yea I've joined 2 Chevy forums. Just waiting for the to activate my account before I can post on their site, I'm learning a lot from the sites, also learning how much I should be paying for what. I also have a mechanic who is a classic gear head that I will take with me when I buy. He has a couple classics his self, 69 charger Cobra gtx fully restored and a couple of other cars.

Wow awesome idea Kev! I love the late 60s early 70s C-10s. Unfortunately, depending on how you look at it, classic trucks are super popular right now, so they're bringing all the money and some people think they have something more valuable than it really is in the condition it's in, but on the flip-side (no pun intended lol) the parts and aftermarket support is super available now. Like damaged442 said just make sure to check it out thoroughly before making an offer.

I see a decent one on Criagslist here and there but pictures can be deceiving. If you have any local car shows I'd ask around. Those guys typically know what's in the area and are pretty honest as far as what condition the vehicles in.

I know the rocker panels on C-10s are typically rotted out. Good luck with your search and make sure to update us on what you find!

Thanks T, I'm super excited, my dad is as well. Yea I've been looking on Craigslist. Going to try to go out to some car shows once the little man is at least a month old, talk to some enthusiast and get their take. Also going to go and check my friends c10 out and pick his brain since his is finally almost done.

I wanted to do this with my father, but with me being with the stupids in Florida and my father in NY, that wasn't going to happen.

Yea Bryan please let me know. On my Craigslist app I have sac Fresno LA SF Stockton and everything around me. If you see any sitting around or anything let me know.

Looking or 65-72 Chevelle 2 door 67-72 c10 that's it for now. Unless I see something else that catches my eye. I'm doing some full blown research on cars.

May take a trip to Washington within the coming week emailed a guy who has a 66 Chevelle 2 door states there is no rust but I have to check especially being in Washington, some reason it's posted in sac though. Wants 6550 which is a steal because rolling shells on a 66 go for about 9. According to a guy I know who does restos Maybe I can talk him down too we will see.

I restored my first car, a 69 Mustang Mach 1, with my dad and it has been the most rewarding experience of my life. I love the old F100's and would like to restore one of those or an old Bronco once I have a house with a big enough garage/driveway! Best of luck with the search and future restoration!

So did u see the episode of fast an loud when they did the bronco?

I found an F100 about 30 mins from me guy wants 1100. Truck runs he has the paperwork and new brakes, it's just not a nice exterior or interior. But hey I said I wanted a project car. I'm going to go an check it out, I'm looking forward to working on it with my dad, he has a 3 car garage but the truck won't fit in it because his 3rd garage is shaped funny and he buying a canam for the 3rd garage. Guess I have to add 3 car garage on my list once I sale my current house and buy a new one.

Bryan

I may be coming to Visalia. Found a Gmc for 500 or best offer. Going to throw the I'm coming 2 hours away trick waiting for the guy to email me back. I believe he out in a new motor but the truck has been sitting since 87 so it will be a fast n loud type deal.

I will let u all know the outcome.

Thought I would update. Still have yet to buy anything. Just been super busy new baby and all. Selling my house to buy a bigger one. Trying to pay off the Accord and buy the new highlander, then selling the corolla to get my toy.

I've been tossing around a 66+ mustang too.

You might be better off looking for a project that someone has lost interest in (Frame, chassis & suspension done, but still may need body and/or paint work as well as interior. Maybe even need motor and trans gone through. Some times these can be picked up for pennies on the dollar.

I feel your pain Damaged 442. I did a low mileage 73 cutlass supreme in late 90's and finding parts was next to impossible. I basically just had rust repaired, new paint and vinyl top, and some inserts in the front buckets. The trim pieces and grills cost me a fortune (nos). Car did win best of class at the 2001 Olds nationals in Denver. Sold this car to pay for PART of the body and paint work on my 71 Vista Cruiser. Wagons are a real bitch to find good quality parts for too.
