Blue cloth? Luxury test still checks out.

Know how much people pay for a blue interior? Might as well be a rolls.

Only thing that can beat it is the burgundy interior.

Our 92 Suburban that lives at our ranch has the red velour-ish cloth interior. But that thing is beyond a POS.
The 87 that was transformed into an Avalanche has blue cloth & still runs like a champ.

It's also not slow.
You can also use voice command to save or hit the icon (was nicer/easier when it was still in the top menu)

you should see the $6 gas prices in LA. I have regrets.

except I just did my taxes and it would have been very helpful to have had the tax credit. I got bent over this year.

Don't have any pre-conversion shots, here's its current state
Originally, it was navy blue with gray/blue interior
It's been down at our ranch & non-road legal for close to 15-20yrs.
Shown next to the POS '92 that would barely run on that trip & is pretty much DOA now.

Imma go fill my Jeep up today then plug it into the battery tender and let it be for a while... Might reconsider selling it soon. Don't really want to take a long trip in a box that gets 16mpg on the highway with gas at $4/gal anyway.

My dad found an abandoned C10 in a field & bought the back of the cab off it. Keeps it dry inside, though not overly pretty.
Had some fueling issues at the moment. We think it needs a new ECU & maybe fuel pump.

Just strip that crap (and all the other emissions related stuff) off and carb it.

And just like that, the Golf R chapter comes to a close

It kinda sucked watching it get picked up today since it was the best car I've ever owned. Every other car in my past has pissed me off in some way - even the CL. The Golf never left me stranded, it never threw a check engine light, nor did it have any weird faults. If money were no object I likely would've kept it as a weekend toy and tossed a new turbo on it/built the engine. Being responsible sucks sometimes.

Definitely sad to see it go. I shared many of the same sentiments with mine as well. One of the best cars I've ever owned.

Who did you sell it to?

Carvana. I'm curious to see what they sell it for. They've got three manual 2018s - two at $40,590 (one with 20k miles, one with 24,500) and another for $38k with 38k miles - all three with purchases in progress. They gave me just under $37k, so either it's going to be listed above those or they're not making much.

Wow those used prices are insane! 20k+ miles for $40k+, in a 2+ year old car? I don't know if VW dealers are selling the 2022 at sticker, but if they are, it doesn't make any sense to consider those used prices. Yeah the market is crazy right now...

Glad you can look back and really appreciate what the R gave you. And yes, you're much better off being responsible. Maybe a P-car as a toy isn't too far off in the near future!

Fingers crossed.

The MSRP on the Mk8 is $5k more than the 7.5 was, so I'm sure that helps pad resale just a bit more. But yeah, the market is insane. If you have a good relationship with a dealer, you can get one at sticker (I've seen it on the new R), but for the most part, there are markups - like every other make.

Couple small updates - I wanted to get mudflaps since the rockers on these cars tend to get the shit beat out of them. I found an stl file online and had them 3d printed in PETG for $25. They're a two piece design and use the factory plastic rivet and sandwich the inner lip of the fender for a secure fit. I'm still looking for a solution for the rear, but I may try to come up with my own design to print

And then I got the windows tinted last night. 35% ceramic all around, including one full piece of film on the back window and the forward roof glass as well. This should cut down on interior temps, which will hopefully lower power usage. It was in the 70s this past weekend and when the car would sit in the sun, the interior was right around 100. I may go back to have the windshield done too - still deciding.

I need to get the 'Bu tinted before summer rolls around.
Need to find a decent mobile tint shop to come do it at the house or the office. Just don't have the time to get to a tint shop & wait.

Can you send me STL files pls? I have a printer sitting right next to me looking for something to do.

The factory roof tint is pretty good as it is, there's a lot of good heat rejection there. I personally had no issues with excess energy consumption from that but YMMV. Also, there's a setting in the car that will limit the inside temp to a max value (not dog mode) that you set while the car is idle. Make sure that's set to what you want it to be at and there's even an option to run the AC vs just the fans too.

The roof is good, and the UV protection is nice. But I wanted it to match But, even with a Covercraft windshield visor, the interior still hit 100 before tint.

And I'm aware of Cabin Overheat Protection, but that still uses power lol

Morgan if I knew the fuel bullshit was gonna happen...I probably would have model Y and sold off two ICE guzzlers...
maybe.
Maybe not...on principle alone I am still okay paying the price to continue to pretend we have free will. But everyone has their price.

I tinted all the windows and windshield. I did not tint the roof. Didn’t feel the need as it does a good job even in the desert.

No, you wouldn't. We all know you'd wax poetic about being able to hear the roar of an engine and how constantly wrenching keeps you sane, and you would've bought four more shitboxes to replace the two you sold off

There's a 0% chance, probably a negative percent chance, that this would have happened.
