I have solar now so technically it is zero The calculations are based on what the utility charges me if I didn't have solar.

Have you run into any issues finding a charging station on your trips? That would be my biggest fear. I'm a natural worry-wort as it is lol.

Zero issues. There's a ton of charging locations out there now. And if you use the navigation in the car, it will automatically plan stops and show you how long you'll be stopped to each charge. All of the red icons are Supercharging locations (there's more if you include destination chargers). The majority that I've stopped at are installed at Wawa gas stations right off the highway. It's actually been really nice stopping for ~20 minutes during a road trip since it forces you to take a break, grab something to eat, use the bathroom, etc.

The slowest charger I've used the Nags Head supercharger (it's in a Harris Teeter parking lot). It's only 150kW and it was a bit slower to charge. The others I've used were 250kW chargers that charged the car from ~10% to 70-80% in 20-25 minutes. That's over 200 miles of range added. It doesn't sound like much compared to an ICE vehicle that can go 3-400miles on a tank, but these days, I look forward to stopping every 3-3.5hrs to stretch, especially with a toddler and a dog.

Around here, I don't think I've ever seen a charger bank that was completely full.
We stopped at the BucEes in Alabama (Orange Beach area) and they have something like 15-20 Telsa chargers on site, only 8-10 were occupied, even when the store was a crowded disaster zone.

Clean bathrooms, tons of gas pumps & good food. But yeah, the crowds make it almost not worth it.
We hit the AL store twice on our Pensacola trip, outbound we hit it on Sunday afternoon & it was a madhouse.
Coming home, Friday morning, around 730AM, no different than an average gas station.

Some do offer free EV charging. If nothing is posted and there is an outlet, it doesn't hurt to ask, but if it's anything smaller than a 30A outlet you'll be there a while.

What does sitting (I assume with the AC on as it was over 106) do to range on a Tesla? I saw this sitting in the line at the border coming back from Mexico yesterday, (the wait was over 80 minutes).

Very little. It maybe dropped a percent or two. These use about 1.2kwh at "idle" with the ac and radio on.

That's freaking impressive. About every 5 minutes I had to rev the engine & keep it above 1200rpm for about a minute to keep the AC cool. That sucked.

edit it was probably closer to 20 minutes.

I've waited in the car for ~30 minutes watching Netflix with the ac on while the female ran into a store and there was no appreciable difference in range.

Chalk up another benefit for Tesla, I sat in the Sequoia for three hours total (time the wife was inside the vet & border) and the estimate MPG went from 17-9 and I must have used at least 3 gallons. On an odd note, gas was -2.85 a gallon in Mexico. Some of that is the horrible currency exchange (486 pesos for 6 gallons) but the charge on my account was 24.51.

Same. You can run the HVAC for days with a full battery charge and still not get down to 20%. The biggest draw on the battery is driving, everything else is pretty much peanuts.

Today marks one year since I got the 3. I've put just over 9k miles on it in that time.

The Good:
- Zero maintenance/service issues
- Inexpensive to operate. $149 at superchargers, $325 at home, though that's inflated since I have solar.
- Comfortable on road trips
- Supercharging network has been flawless

The Bad:
- I can't make it faster
- It has more creaks and rattles at 9k miles than my VW did at 24k.
- It's a Tesla
- The non-car-people Tesla owners
- Elon

But the crazy thing is I don't feel the need to move on from it yet, and if I get something new, it will be another EV and I'll likely just give the fiance the 3.

I missed this.
Great picture, you've made that Tesla a boner alert for sure. Love it.

Just think how many shitboxes you could have purchased in that time .

The M3P on paper is the move to make - sometimes, you can't argue that .

Glad you're still enjoying it
