Nothing too exciting, still waiting for some parts to come in. They keep getting delayed
2013/03/30
Installed new, denser taillight gaskets last weekend. I haven't had any fogging in about 8 months, but I decided to upgrade them anyway. Besides, they were free
Old:
New:
2013/04/07
Finally got around to installing the Hotchkis sway bars that I had lying around for about a month. They were so easy to install (compared to that bitch of a CL).
The front sway mounts to the subframe braces. The easiest way to replace it is to remove the braces entirely. Its just 8 bolts (plus two for the end links) and its off the car.
It took longer to remove the splash shields then it did to replace the sway bar
Rear, stock:
Stock (top) vs Hotchkis (bottom):
Installed:
The entire kit was pretty nice. It came with adjustable heim joint end links for the rear and machined aluminum spacers. The front bar has two stiffness settings, the rear has 4. Front is set to soft, the rear is second from soft. I may bump it up to the next hardest setting, but I need some more seat time.
During the test drive I noticed two things -
1) The suspension is definitely tighter, its just slightly firmer over bumps
2) The rear end feels so much more confidence inspiring.
Sometimes, if I went into a turn wrong, the car would understeer slightly. I took it through a pretty tight bend near my house at about 50mph, punched the throttle halfway through and the rear stepped very slightly (it was very predictable), then it hooked and just went exactly where I wanted it to. I honestly didn't expect to notice a big difference, but so far I'm incredibly pleased with it.
I really need to get some camber/toe link adjusters for the rear. The driver side rear tire has a bit of camber wear, the passenger side isn't too bad. Im really impressed how long those tires lasted though, I've got about 19-20k miles on them and they look like theyve got another 5k left. Not too shabby.

holy upgrade !!!
the sway bars is also 40% bigger (in diameter)....I love the feeling of a tighter suspension and no body roll...funny enough I did a little 4 wheel drift on an exit today and was very impressed with the way the car came out of it....rain and shitty tires made it possible...the wifey almost wet the racing seat LOL....
you know if you come to the meet this year, I am driving the FRS right

Morgan, great update, man...I'm more jealous of your garage space...
Seriously though, I watched the British Top Gear on demand yesterday where they reviewed the GT86 etc...they favored it over the Subi and although they did say it wasn't the fastest, they did say it was super fun to drive and predictable to drift. I'd love to give one a whirl.

Thanks guys!
Stop?
The lens is exaggerating the space, but its still larger then my last garage.
Trying to keep it that way
I like the kit on certain cars. I don't think if fits with the style I want to go with though - I prefer subtle aggression (I think J coined that one).
I don't like the rivets one bit though.

Bad ass! That bar is so much thicker than stock!
I still need to get a Type-S bar for my car.
I'm sure the car feels a lot better with that upgrade.

In search of excitement
I saw the gaskets first NBD, but those pesky wires just love to unplug themselves! Bastards!! always making you have to pull over to plug them back in. :p
