Don't the windows extend up into the roof when you close the door though? On my car they roll down a touch so you can open it and then roll back up when you close the door. That way they are fully supported at the top when the door is closed.
#603
Yeah they do roll in and out, but all that seems unnecessary. Plus I’m in my early 40s now, my back is tired of digging holes for the bodies of people that shut my door by pushing the glass.

My girlfriend is well trained. You lift your feet over the rocker panel so that you don't drag your feet over the lit-up "Carrera 4 GTS" and plastic trim when getting in and out, and don't let the seat belt latch go flying into the leather trim of my B pillar. Same applies to the windows you mention, or you are walkin'.

You mean closing the big barn doors on something like an old 2-door Camaro so that after a while the windows just flop back and forth within the door? Yeah, let me do some target shooting.

I just meant that for people that get out of the car, stand up go “Nice Car” grab the top corner of the window and swing the door shut.
At PCA events I saw a lot of folks shutting their doors by pushing the window.
#608
And my PCA region wants me to take my Porsche to one of their "approved" shops for a track inspection. You should have seen how they butchered a friends 993 when installing a factory Porsche short shift kit. I would not let them play with a Meccano set, they were so incompetent.
#609
^^^ That is emphatically NOT how the Niagara Region PCA is at all. Every member I've spoken to are incredibly knowledgeable about P cars and a lot of them do their own restorations, mechanical work and routine maintenance. I am really happy to be affiliated with these people.

It's in the shop now, they were sent the incorrect moulding so won't be done until Monday. I was supposed to go to Cars n Coffee this morning and then an afternoon P car run with about 10 other 911's. This glass issue is screwing up my plans once again as I didn't get to finish my HPDE at the Glen bc of the current onslaught of the problem.
#613
They are really prepping you up for McLaren ownership
It’s a shame you are missing out on all these activities though, they should loan you a 911 so you can continue the fun. Honestly, second time in a fairly short period, they should do something other than loan you a base macan.

Ain't that the truth from reading a lot of owner reviews. Good from far and far from good. Too exotic (and too pricey) and I don't need or want the attention.
And as much as I have a very sweet spot for a Ferrari, the styling that is, like the 246 Dino or the 550 Maranello with the beautiful sound of a V-12 that I almost bought, what changed my mind was my ex-girlfriend's brother who was born in Italy, lives in Italy, owned an independent car parts business in Italy and told me in Italian "A Ferrari is beautiful to look at, but if you want a real sports car, buy a Porsche". So I did, a 993 and added a 991.1 Carrera 4 GTS. No regrets!
Sort of like "chrome won't get you home" in the motorcycle world.

Regarding Ferrari, I think anything after but including the f430 is pretty reliable. Personally, I wouldn’t buy anything in their current lineup like Roma or 296 with their capacitive steerwheel buttons.I would totally take a 430, 458, 488, F8, FF, gt4 Lusso, f12 or 812.
nice on the 993, those things are worth a mint now.

I don’t have much experience with McLaren, but a friend had a 570s and no issues directly with power plane, but other random issues with it that kept it at the dealer a while. One that took a while is the carbon fiber on the driver door had some issue and was splitting so they had to order a new door. Another acquaintance had an mp4-12c which he then traded up for a 650s spyder. Other than weird random trim issues I think it’s been mostly ok, but he also has a 911 turbo S. He is not really one to complain, but all he said was Porsche ownership isn’t like mclaren ownership.

one thing that’s frustrating with Ferrari is the sticky buttons after a few years.
#620
Why was the one nearly $4k for normal service? I wouldn't count $2700 for tires as part of "service cost", those are consumables. $650 a year would be what I'd expect...
Ferrari will charge you $2k just to change the oil and peek around with a flashlight.

the nearly 4k was plugs, coils, air filter, oil + filter, brake fluid change, Oh and they topped off my windshield fluid.
My warranty is ending soon so I’ll likely stop using the dealer.
#623
And oil change using dealer parts on my 991.1: $100 for 2 jugs of Mobil 1, oil filter, O-ring, drain plug sealing ring.
Last month I did the transmission oil, front differential oil and AWD controller oil.
I buy the parts and do it yourself as I do not trust anyone messing with my cars and motorcycles.
Porsche just goes nuts with their Maintenance Checklist as if it is on the track every weekend or if it was an aircraft.

Actually owning a Porsche is no more expensive than owning anything else. I've owned them since 2009.

I also agree with the Porsche checklist feeling like it was pulled from an aircraft.

I'd have to disagree with insurance rates being high for a Porsche. Of course insurance premiums vary from state to state and province to province, but for my 911 Carrera 4 GTS, I am paying $343 more than my RDX, both with full coverage. And both are ultra cheap due to my near 50 year accident-free and claim-free record.
If fact when I checked, a rock bottom Tesla 3 was $558 more than the Porsche. Go figure!

My wife asked "Soooo, just how much is our insurance going to go up when the 911 gets here?" It went down $530/year with $1M Single Limit coverage; extended no fault benefits, full glass, $1000 deductible for collision, rental car coverage and $1M Supplemental Uninsured/Underinsured motorist coverage. The coverages are the same as what we had on my BMW 650 GC so nothing changed other than vehicles.

A serial poster of ridiculous posts over on Rennlist asked "So do you think the Carrera T is a better daily driver than a GTS or an S?" (or words to that effect). Here's one guy's response

I couldn’t add my car to my Allstate policy. They gave me a quote n everything, but when came time to add it, they couldn’t, so I have hagertys agreed value policy. One thing I like about the non GTS or GT cars is 5 lug nuts. Center lock looks cool, but getting another set of wheels is $$$$ and it’s a pain to swap. I would really like a set of wheels with sticky tires and another set with Michelin 4S or something equivalent.

Since I am not a "key turner" as many Porsche owners are, I have all the required tools for the job to do it right. I've only had the wheels off twice in 5 years.
#636
^ This. I tend to do the same. I don't want to spend a shit load of money on modifying a car to just end up selling it and losing all that money. Would rather just buy a different car at that point.

Yeah I’ve never bling’ed my cars. My TL is completely stock visually, all I have is Doms nav device and the Bluetooth wireless audio hookup on the xm unit in the trunk. The only bling is my odyssey for which I had the windshield washers and mudflaps painted white to match the car.
my problem with the center lock is as described, I want 2 sets of wheels, one for driving around, one for Autocross and track. Stock GT wheels are stupid expensive because Porsche and because GT, few aftermarket options and those are also a lot of money.
back in college when I occasionally autocrossed my cousins cars, the wheels with sticky tires were in the trunk + backseat and we swapped at the event. I wouldn’t haul around my wheels like I did back then but I would put them on for the weekend and then take them off.

I wanted them as spares to hold up my car while I take the ones on my car in for tire replacement. I never bring a car in, just the wheels. I don't need some clown effing things up and possibly damaging my PCCBs and then telling me "I'm sorry".

Well I missed out on a set of new GTS Centerlocks with only 600 miles on the rims and tires. And they were priced tight. I must have been Scottish that day.

@Chief F1 Fan any update on your window? Do you have any upcoming track events? I’m heading back out to sebring later this month.
#640
Oh yeah, the window has been fixed for quite some time now, sorry. No upcoming track events, it's getting to be "storage season" around these parts. We've already had one snowfall, more on the way in 10 days, garage gets finished being built today, next up concrete and doors to start.
