Styling faux pas aside, the Honda brand simply has too much weight when it comes to actually signing on the dotted line (so to speak).
Agree about the 4cyl. Honda still wins there.

As for V6 and transmissions.....(especially transmissions) Ford can have my coin.

I love Honda product, but the whole idea I used to have that Hondas were "bullet-proof" has long been proven false. Hondas are just as prone to being unreliable as their competition.

If I was buying a Hybrid Sedan...the Fusion would take my coin hands down as well.

Finally read the issue. Enjoyed it. I was surprised to see that my town was named as one of the best drivers cities (they, however, mixed up the location with SB).

1 S4 please, in that lovely blue they use on the RS6.....
The S4 and the 3 series are officially categorized as compact cars.

The 5 series and A6 are mid sized cars and neither made the list.

Good list overall.

That's odd, I had a 1G Fusion for a company car and while the styling was rather bland, it was a well built and good driving car.

Now, the MMC/2G has corrected a lot of the shortcomings and Hybrid model is tops in its class. Go take a Fusion Sport for a ride; I think you'll be pleasantly surprised.

I definitely think the Ford Fusion (in general) is worth a look.

This is unrelated but I don't get how the Fusion could lose a MT comparo against the Accord earlier this year yet then be named COTY?

I don't believe the Accord was eligible for the COTY award from MT. To be eligible a vehicle needs to be " a new model or significantly improved". The Accord is basically the same car as last year so it wasn't in the running.

So to answer the question of how the Accord wins the comparison test against the fusion but the fusion wins COTY. MT found the Accord was a better car however it wasn't eligible for this particular award so a car they feel is a lesser vehicle wins which makes me question the validity of the award int he first place.

Yeah, but lets be honest. If the Accord were eligible would it really have won COTY? I think not. THe Fusion is just benefitting from a bit of "home field advantage" by the car media right now...

There may be a hint of truth to that - kinda funny since "the media" in general has always been accused of an anti-detroit bias.

Given the choice though, I’d take a Fusion Sport over any of the current Accord sedans.

While the Fusion Sport is worthy of consideration, I'm not certain I'd commit to one over an Accord V6 EX-L w/Navi. But, I definitely applaud Ford's effort with the Fusion as they've NEVER had anything worthy of consideration vs prior generation Accords in the past.

No doubt they are both very nice cars, and perhaps it’s the styling that’s more to my liking – which is highly subjective. I think the overall package is nice though, and the NAV/Sync system in the Fusion is very well done. The Honda V6 trumps the Ford 3.5 though.

Speaking of Accord's from the past, the 3G (86-89) LXi hatch was one of my favorites.

Happy Holidays Everyone!

Have you been in the new Fusion? Its got a noisy V6 and it isn't smooth by all means. The V6 Honda is very smooth.

All those car magazines are biased, Its how much advertising dollars those companies spent in there publications that makes the biggest difference.
Cunsomer reports DOES not accept any advertising money from ANYONE so there list looks ALOT different.
2010 Consumer Reports Best overall scores (out of 100)
1) Lexus LS 460L 99
2) BMW 135i 97
3) Infiniti M35X 97
4) Porsche 911 carreraS 96
5) Infiniti M35 95
6) Infiniti G37 Journey 95

Funny how NONE of those cars are on the car and driver list!

Consumer reports takes facktual data from actual owners... You look at any car and there stats for it and they are RIGHT on for example in the 2001-2003 TL/CL major tranny probles black dot and now 2009 TSX half black dot on audio system and lots of people are haveing problems with audio system.
Every car u look at and there rating and they are on the money!

I think C&D would reply that since the G is a BMW copy the BMW does a better job, even if it is more expensive.

And nobody can show any proof that CR is unbiased or that C&D is biased.

Just for the record, every car/consumer mag has their share of biases. We just tend to notice it less when we agree with the bias.

The Accord and 3 Series are always on that list every year. I bet when I look at that list in 2020 the Accord and 3 Series will be on there still.

Some small cars should be included in this more. I had more fun driving a beater Kia Rio I rented at the airport than many mid size rentals.
