Car crashes at dragstrip - finds out ambulance is empty! (US 41 Indiana)

This is complete BS. I frequent this track every couple months or so and was surprised to see this. Ever since this track was under new ownership, it has gone to shit. They are going to lose a LOT of business from this.

Here is the 20+ pg link to the story and witnesses who were there including the owner basically saying F off if you don't like what he has to say.

http://www.yellowbullet.com/forum/sh...d.php?t=405124

Here is the ambulance that is at the track in case of any injuries. Basically just an added sense of "security" for the racers. Apparently the track pays $1600 to have this thing around.

Here is the car that crashed. Car is banged up badly but the driver is OK from what I read.

Hell if Gojo can't clean it then nothing can! On a serious note, that's pretty shitty.

I can't show this thread to my wife. She'll keep me from going to another dragstrip, ever. (As if I had time to go, anyway....)

From what I hear, most are pretty strict and in NJ I believe by law you must have an ambulance with safety equipment. It's just sickening to wonder A) how long they have been getting away with this and B) if anyone was seriously injured, you better bring a van because that ambulance isn't going to do squat!

Just to clarify, after reading further, it appears the event holder that day payed for a safety team/medical equipment to be there which cost her $1600. She did this because most of the event was 6-7sec cars.

This was the ambulance that was provided for the event.

does this go against any law??

and what good is it to pay $1600 for that, I'm calling BS that it actually cost that much. Or the owner did something weird to get an empty ambulance like that. Maybe the safety team had another truck their with the equipment?

I'm guessing this little revelation will be the end of his liability insurance, and perhaps his business license. Oops.

Read the thread.
Didn't read it all yet but it was $1600 and the owner is a woman but leaves the track mgr to run the place I believe who is a major Dbag from what I read. There is no "safety team" there. I've been there tons of times and never once have I seen anything other than a pick up truck to drive down and inspect the lanes for leaks, et...

I've seen quite a few accidents at drag strips when I virtually lived at them in my youth. All of those tracks were NHRA sanctioned so it can happen anytime, anywhere. On one of them, I saw a man get killed. He owned a shop in Maryland and about six months before he died, I bought a set of mag wheels from him.

That's terrific but the purpose of this thread was about the safety provided for the racers, not how serious a crash is.

Exactly.

I'd be surprised if it were not a requirement that emergency medical staff be on site for these kinds of events.
