Which car to buy next?
Which car to buy next?
Hey Guys, I have learnt a bunch of car stuff from this forum. I have a '00 TL as my DailyDriver, and wife drives a '10 Civic. I love driving TL given the power and speaker system. Although I don't have any mods to my car, but I like it much better than the Civic.
Thinking of upgrading to a nicer car. we will sell Civic and wife has agreed to use TL as her DD. Don't want to sell TL as we would only get 2 or 3k, and there aren't any major issues with it.
Thinking of spending below 25k. Selling the Civic for around 10k. What do you guys say? what should I go for. I know it is quite a personal choice. Some options I have looked at - 2013 Lexus ES 350 Miles: 30041, 2013 Acura TL Technology Pkg Miles: 24835. 2013 328i would have been a nice option, but brother has it, dont want to buy the same.
Things I prefer in the car bluetooth integration but the handsfree systems are cheap, decently good speakers, some power in there. Mileage of mid twenty and up would be great. Thats why G37 is out.
Views? tough decisions, you know!

+3 The new Civic is not a joke. Looks good, features good, in your price range. If you want something similar to your 2G TL, the Accord is not a bad option, the 2015s are going for lots less at this time.

I am biased, but a 4G TL with SH-AWD is a wonderful car and with your budget, you could land a fairly low mileage unit with the 2012 refreshed styling.
For the record, I think the 09-11 styling was bang-on hence the reason I own one.

Why would you sell the good car? Yes, it may not have as much power or luxury as the TL, but there is not doubt it is the better car of the two. I used to own a 2000 TL as well, and yes it was powerful and fancy, but it would need expensive repairs every few months. It's a 15 year old car with a glass transmission. I bet the paint has started to peel a while back.
If you're dead set on getting another car, sell the 2G TL and buy a nice used 3G TL (they've come down in price a lot). I wouldn't give the wife a car like that

I know I'm one of the few, but I agree. I prefer the '09-11 TL, love the quad-look exhaust and the edgy, bold styling. The '12-14 was a little too soft and refined for me. But I vote for a 4G TL. It's just a solid vehicle that will give you a lot of bang for your buck.
could not agree more. love the way it looks! the only thing is all the 3G's have like 100k+ miles. Cant convince myself to buy it, even though the engine and everything else wouldnt have any issues.
J series engine is one of the best engines ever produced.. With the exception of the 2G TL trans.. I'd say the platform (incl the AV6) is outstanding. The 3G TL shortcomings is the dash, leather seats, engine mounts, eventual APP sensor failure.. maybe throw in LCA compliance bushing, and a couple others, but super minor in the scheme of things. I wouldn't hesitate owning another one.

I was happy that I actually got 5.5k on trade on it. I took it and ran.
But when I was said and done, I was never treated better than any dealership. I miss the ownership experience. My local dealer and the staff kicked ass.
Lol idk, maybe! No I just like the beak in the '09-11 and how it stands out from everything else. I don't really like how the '09-11 FWD model looks, only the AWD with the wheels, quad exhaust, and a little different looking front near the turn signals. Tinted windows makes the car look better also. They made the '12-14 model pretty, but that's not always what I want in a car. I mean c'mon what's not to like about this thing..
I voted for the 09-11 4G with my wallet.
I loved the look since it debuted and still do. Exterior/Interior/ Chassis/Engine... it delivers everything I want in my car. The ability to power oversteer in the wet is just icing on the cake.
The only mistake, in my humble opinion, was Acura not offering a mono-chrome grill or other grill variations. The grill surround (not the beak) was horribly integrated with the beak and should never have been bright silver; it should have been colour matched. Anyway, these are $100 fixes to an otherwise brilliant design.
The whole car is a styling masterpiece and blows away the 3G in pure styling excellence. The whole body has a blistered fender appearance that no Acura before or after has delivered.
I'm saying all this after 6 years of staring at it. My feelings haven't changed. The 4G SH-AWD is just a solid all around car.

You guys a nucking futs.. one of the ugliest, if not theeee fugliest designs they've ever produced. Although the look is less offensive to me as it once was.. I still cringe.
Other than that.. great ride.
It's fundamentally a solid design. The "fixes" are the fun part of modding.
To each their own but I'm a 4G fan since it's debut.
I know looks are subjective but when pretty much all the reviews have called it fugly and consumers stop buying cuz of it s fugliness(See sales #), then there must be some truth about its ugliness right?
Just because you like the look of it, does not mean it is not ugly. it is a good car but the exterior design is definitely not its selling point.

It's a good car, more so if you like the look.
I think exterior styling is one of its virtues, others feel the opposite.
Take it for a drive (along with your other candidates) and then see how you feel. Lots to choose from so enjoy the process and choosing the one that deserves your hard earned cash.
Apologies to all if this thread is off topic.
