What does a car say about you?
Hello all,
I love automobiles and I love knowing why other people buy the cars they buy. To me a car says more about you than your house because a car is seen by more people than your house...
Anywho...So I wanted to see one person who is important in your life and what do they drive? Why?
My wife has a 2008 Toyota Highlander Hybrid Limited. We needed a people mover (family errands runner); she is a techie sort of, and she came from a Honda civic and needed a car-like SUV. I wanted her to get the MDX, but we made a good decision...I mean I did the research so...lol

My wife drives a 2010 Honda Element EX....
She's a horticulturist, and needed it to haul plants/bags of mulch/dirt etc.
It's her 3rd element, due to these needs. It's a very practical and utilitarian vehicle, making it a very good vehicle for HER.
It's an OK car. The seats fold up in the back, or they can be taken out completely. There is no carpeting in the entire vehicle, which makes cleaning up very easy. it's very reliable. It's AWD, blah blah blah...
Things that aren't so great... it's a harsh ride. It has zero tech. It's slow. Not so great MPG(24 highway).
She rarely hauls plants etc anymore(works on estates mostly now), so we've been talking about upgrading to a newer, more tech friendly, more efficient CUV.
Thinking CR-V, Rav4, or CX-5...
pics: just because...

weird topic, but i'll bite.
people have MANY different reasons of picking their vehicle. Most view it as an appliance to get them from point A to point B. Like your wife, she needed a people mover.
I chose my TL because I wanted a "sporty sedan with a manual transmission" and that it had to last for over 10 years....ie; Honda reliability.

My wife drives a 2009 Toyota Rav4 SPort V6 4x4. Like you we needed a people mover after having one kid with another on the way at the time. She was previously driving an '01 Toyota Corolla, so the most basic of transportation but reliable and fuel efficient. Neither of us wanted a mini van or a large SUV, so a crossover was our target and being she wanted another Toyota it left us pretty much exclusively looking at a Rav4. Neither of us liked the spare tire on the back of the previous gen Ravs so once I found the Sport model that came without it and was available with the 3.5L V6 I suggested (err decided) she should get one. She wanted something that I would enjoy driving as well since I'm the one that drives where ever we go as a family. It's a fun little car and always impresses me when I stop on the gas pedal but still gets great all around MPG.

Better half drives the '16 RDX majority of the time
Frequent trips back and forth from Iowa driving the girl child to college
That is hopefully coming to an end with our daughter requiring her own vehicle next year.
I think she wants a Prius when the lease is up on the RDX. We have an incredibly short commute to work. She doesn't enjoy driving nearly as much as I do, and would be happy being chauffeured the rest of her life

Just went from an '00 TL-P to an '04 civic LX. Miss some things about the TL, but am enjoying >30mpg.
Wife went from said Civic to a '13 Flex SEL. Love the space & works great for her business.

My wife drives a Cobalt which is the last car her parents bought her before we got married, but I really can't wait to get her into a used RX330/350. We have one child but will have another someday, and she's a teacher so there's always a need to throw stuff in the back.
My car says... "I don't need driver aids", "LED DRL's are passe", and "remember when cars weren't huge?".

If the car is bought by choice (not company car or a gift), then in general it can tell a lot about someone's personality based on the choices that person makes.
However, RDX Elite, RLX and IS350 are in a league of their own. They are usually driven by the Chosen one(s).

Middle class has similar net income as people who make less than them. The difference all went to paying Obama care and food stamps for the poor and tax loopholes for the 1%.

If you make 50k a year roughly 36.00 a year towards SNAP (Food Stamps) benefits.

But otherwise not sure what the comment on the middle class was about. It is true that middle class is getting shafted....the cause though there seems to be disagreements over.

I'll just leave this here.
I own a 4runner and while some types of people may not find it cushy enough, the LRA, iron-block engine, low range 4x4 w/ locking diff, and body-on-frame construction are the reasons I love it. It will not compensate for your inadequacies as much as other cars, but it still feels rock solid and has eaten plenty of mud at 120k miles.
To me, the 4runner doesn't need an exterior overhaul because it's built for the man who understand what it is like to be a man. If a man understands how to be one (that's not true at all in today's world), then he can appreciate what this vehicle symbolizes. It's about how even the best of men can still be rough around the edges, but have the ability to handle a lot of what comes their way. Sometimes it may not be the smoothest ride, but he'll get it done. Just like the 4runner will.
To me, it's rare to evoke such an emotional reaction about a vehicle. But when I look at it, I simply ask myself one question: If you are a proud male who hopes to one day provide for his family the best way he knows how, and you want people to know that you're confident that "your way" can succeed, how does this vehicle not embody that?
That's why I love the 4runner. It's for a certain kind of guy: Proud, persistent, confident, intelligent, refined. Kind of like a male lion.

My wife drives an '07 Suburban LTZ because she has to haul kids and dogs and saddles and miscellaneous shit... And we haul all that shit up to Canada a couple times a year. She didn't really want such a big gas guzzler but we love it.
