BMW question

My best friend just picked up his new 2001 740i on Saturday. It's truly an awesome automobile! But, it better be for $65K! Anyway, he was curious of the 0-60 and 1/4 mile times.... anybody know them? Of course, he wants to race me. I'm sure he'd win, but his car is about 800 lbs heavier than the CL-S.

Edmunds quoted BMW in 1999 740i Sport' 0-60 at 6.8s so it should be quite a race.

Good luck!

I've read that 0-60 should be in the high 6's & 1/4 mile at about 15.5. Nice car eh? <G> My dad just got a '97 740IL, fully loaded. Really well made and all the options & luxury items you can imagine (although I like my 6 disc changer in the dash instead of the trunk). We took it on a bit of a road trip a couple of weeks ago; feels slightly stronger than my CL-S from about 60 MPH up, but slower off the line; mind you the IL is the long wheelbase version that weighs a bit more.

BTW the retail for a new 740IL in Canada is approaching $120 large! My dad picked up his for $49 grand (CDN) in perfect condition with about 45,000 miles & a BMW certified warranty for another 3 years; pretty hard to beat :-).

He was looking at the 740iL, but didn't really need the extra room. The car is absolutely beautiful. These are probably the best luxury cars in the world right now (save for the MBs which I don't care much for).

BTW, his has the sport package and handles pretty damn good for how much it weighs!

I think a race between us would be pretty even.

The M3 coupe was never made with auto, it was made with the SMG trasmission for Europe only. The M3 Sedan and Convertible were both available with Automatic as an option.
