BMW European Delivery question
BMW European Delivery question
I ordered a 535i w/ M Sport last week and the production was scheduled for week 36 (first week in September), giving me a little time to decide if I want to do a European Delivery. Well, I found out today that the car just went into production -- a month early, so if I want to do an ED I need to let my salesperson know within the next few days. The problem is, if I do an ED, I may only have 4-5 days, including travel time, for the trip. I'm not sure it's worth it even though I figure I'll save at least $1-2K after factoring in airfare, hotels, and food. Has anyone done such a short ED trip? My salesperson said he's actually had people arrive early in the AM, pick up the car, drive 10 minutes to the nearest drop off point, and fly home that evening.
Four to five days only gives me two days at most to actually enjoy the countryside in my new bimmer. I'm just not sure it's worth it, besides, ED means I'll get my car 6-8 weeks later (late October / early November). I'd much rather have it in September or early October and enjoy a couple of beautiful autumn drives on some Appalachian twisties.

The experience is priceless. If you are a big BMW enthusiast then do it. I only went for 4 days.
Between the production tours, BMW museum and just driving your new BMW south through the mountain roads is worth it alone.
Heres my thread with pics. http://www.m3post.com/forums/showthr...ghlight=munich
Downside is that the wait is killer. Although, mine was quick. Only took 30 days to get it to my dealer after i dropped it off in Munich.

Forgot to mention, make sure you get a good deal on it.
Im not talking about just European Delivery MSRP, theres also European Delivery invoice pricing. Should be able to get $500 to 1k over that. Which is a little under 14% off U.S MSRP!

BTW, I got the car at invoice and was told I'll also get ED invoice if I choose to go that route (an additional $3.5K savings).
I kinda winged it in terms of my route.
I followed this by loading it onto the HD navi but had issues near Berchtesgaden. I guess they closed the road i was on for a bike race. Cops yelled at me and escorted me down. Was fun trying to keep up with the cops on the motorcycles though.
So i didnt make it to salzburg as I was getting pretty tired.

My plan the next day was to go to Stuttgart to visit the benz and porsche museum. Just didnt have the energy to make the far drive. Jet lag was really kicking my ass during the first few days.
Instead I went down to Andech for a beer and enjoy the country roads. That was worth it.
There is TONS you can plan out for the trip, even if it is for a couple of days.
Lots of info on this forum. http://www.bimmerfest.com/forums/for...=25&order=desc

Thanks again for all the info! Believe it or not, I actually took part of that route about 10 years ago and was there during the Rosenheim Festival (Herbstfest), one of the best beer festivals in the world. It looks like it's being held from 29 August - 13 September this year -- even more incentive to do an ED.
I stayed in an awesome hotel outside of Bad Aibling which is less than 10 miles from Rosenheim. Humm...this is starting to come together...

OP: Herbstfest? I used to live in Bad Aibling (Tuntenhausen) from 1996 - 1999. Great Area. Did you ever go to Aying for their fest? That is a nice little fest, centered on the town brewery.
I spent 5 plus years of my 10 1/2 in Bavaria, splitting time between Augsburg and BA. Pick up the car there, and be sure to hop on the A9, Munchen to Nurenburg. That is the best stretch of Autobahn you'll drive on. Just don't do it Friday evening through Sunday. Lots of traffic. 3 lanes of paved bliss.

Is the Aying fest held in August/September as well? Even if the fest isn't happening, I just might have to drop by the Ayinger brewery. I didn't realize they made such world-renowned beer until googling the town name and reading some of beer reviews.
Unfortunately, the Rosenheim fest was the only one I made it to during my two-weeks in BA.

http://www.ayinger.de/. The hotel is on the right (bottom, and the brewery on the left.
Also, you could drive through Bad Aibling to the town of Mietraching, hang the right and drive up that road about 3 Km and see the Maxlrain Brewery. Also a golf course and gasthaus.

Nice area down there. Just do it.
