Autography...52 cars in 33 years
Even if I count my Lego cars, I can’t keep up with you guys…
I agonize so long over a car purchase that the model / generation changes…
since you all have had so many cars, I’m curious which cars you got and were underwhelming and which cars you got that you enjoyed more than expected.

Tesla Model 3 Performance, it's fine as a car but the build quality is crap and Tesla spends more money on useless gimmicks and terrible promises than actually making the car better.
3G Acura TL-S. This is going to ruffle up some people...It's what brought me here but I didn't love the car. It was kind of a boat and I didn't really care for it all that much.
Overwhelming:
VW Golf R: this car was utterly fantastic in every possible way other than the size. It was amazing until we had a kid and the infant seat meant my wife's knees were part of the front crumple zone so it had to go.
Rivian R1T: I've made no secret of the fact that I think this is the best daily driver on the market today. It does everything so astoundingly well that it's almost too good to be true.
So bad it was great:
Jeep Wrangler Rubicon (JKU): This thing was so much fucking fun. It was terrible to drive on the road but almost in an entertaining way. It made you feel good driving it and taking it out on many adventures was an absolute blast. I'd love to get another one and go out on more adventures but don't want it for a daily driver.
So bad it was just bad:
Jeep Cherokee Trailhawk: It sucked. That's all there is to say. The ZF 9 speed is an atrocity against humanity, can't believe Honda still uses it.
Underwhelming:
Mini Cooper Convertible: Fun to drive, but lots of gremlins. In my case, probably because it sat for almost 2 years. If it'd been a S and a stick, it would've been much better
Chevrolet Malibu: Enough said
Like the Mini it was nearly free, but was just a meh shitbox
Overwhelming:
Fiesta ST: Love the car, zippy, economical, and a blast to drive. Can drive it hard without being in deep felony territory
While it's the slowest car I've ever driven, I'd love to have my Mercedes 240D back. It was in amazing shape for having over 300k miles on it.
Honorable Mention
Infiniti J30: Like an auto 300ZX with 4 doors. Parts prices & $4/gal for 93 [engine knock on 89, never tried 87] on a broke college budget moved it out of the garage. Would've been a blast with a stick

I do wish it was rwd though, and the steering had more padding. I’m trying to ignore the cracked dash. Otherwise, it’s pretty darn perfect for a sedan to me.
On my end,
underwhelming was my wife’s 7th Gen Honda accord coupe. She had the v6, but auto … i didn’t really like the steering, the suspension was too firm and bouncy. It wasn’t a bad car I just didn’t care for it.
over deliver: 4th Gen odyssey. The amount of stuff we can throw in there for a trip or journey to the airport is incredible. Seats are comfortable (longest drives I’ve done with it were 500 miles) and it was fine. Sound system is great in the Touring Elite. It has been pretty reliable for us, I had an oil leak from the pump and a cat went bad. But otherwise it was mostly just scheduled maintenance or wear items like the cv joints. When we got it the intent was to keep it 7 years or so. However, over time everyone started really liking it and it’s been reliable, so 15+ years later it is still my main transport.
I'll add, to further drift the thread, our Flex was quite surprising. Fairly economical, and nearly as versatile as a minivan.
My wife didn't like when I pointed out the fact that it was a combination of a wagon and a minivan, her 2 least favorite types of cars.
My 2GTL was nice, but had a weird hot start issue where it would seem to only run on 2 cylinders for a moment, and it was on its 3rd 5AT, which was starting to slip if you forced a downshift from 2nd to 1st.
Maybe posts 607-611 should be moved to: https://acurazine.com/forums/car-tal...thread-832939/ to not clutter up this thread?

never own a Chrysler product again. The were POSs. Also, never buy a Chrysler product new, there is a reason depreciation is so bad on them. Honda today may not be perfect, but even Honda imperfection is better than Mopar. Ewwww.
Pretty good: RLX Sport Hybrid. I’ve owned two. Lots of room, very fast, suspension firm but still luxurious. A real sleeper. Too bad Acura dropped the ball on marketing it, and that Americans prefer SUVs.
Awesome:
Manual CTS-V wagon. The fact I still own it after 14 years says it all.
3G TL was the best Honda product I’ve ever owned. Fun to drive, reliable, right sized. I loved it, and if I had room or desire for more cars, I’d buy one just to have. Yes, it would have been better as RWD, but we all know Honda is the king of FWD performance, so…
Integra Type S is close behind the 3G TL. In fact, it shares a lot of what I liked about the 3G TL and I see it as its spiritual successor. It’s the first daily driver I’ve had since the V wagon that I am not tempted to trade in for newness at 2 1/2 years. I don’t know if it will be a keeper like the wagon, but I haven’t had this much fun in a daily driver in years.
Special mentions:
My pop-up NA2 NSX. Great, mostly analog driving experience. It’s like a toy I can’t put away.
S2000s. I’ve owned two. There is nothing like the 1st-2nd-3rd gear up shift in VTEC while accelerating into the highway. And the quick steering. And the shifter. Right now, the ITS has taken the place of the S2000 in my life for light, fast steering ratio, great handler, and it has a hatch, so more practical.
Maybe these last few posts can be their own Car Talk thread, if folks are agreeable I’ll make the change.
