Go down to a Honda dealer and test drive it.

i have a buddy that has the 07 civic si.... it is a fun little car to drive (since we put the sway bar and suspension on) but still fun before. Yes the dash is horrible, and the seats are uncomfortable

If you're looking to get a manual Civic, get the Si.

What are you getting then?

I (we) avg 35-38mpg in our 07 auto sedan. I think that is whats advertised.

I have an 06 Si. I love it. Last time I checked my MPG's I was getting 29 which I thought was reasonable.

I've test driven both the SI and regular civic. It was a EX civic 5 speed. While I am a hugh Honda fan I'm just not thrilled with the civic's motor in both cars. I need something that resembles torque. In fact my parents 09 Corolla was more enjoyable as a DD to me because it had torque.

My mother has a 08, it could be a 07, I don't recall, but it is no older then 07. Not base, but not Si, I don't know the models well, AT. In other words a plain Jane civic, nothing special. She really likes it, it is reliable and economical on all fronts. If you can get passed the odd dash, the little triangular windows in the front doors and don't plan on winning many races at lights it is a GREAT daily driver, just don't expect it to be something it is not. I drove it to NJ a few weeks ago, with 4 people in the car it was a slug, border line unsafe in the acceleration department, that said it was comfortable. I wouldn't want to drive across country with 4 adults in it, then again I wouldn't want to do that in any car!

I worked at a Honda dealership for a few months before and I have driven a lot of Civic's. They feel very solid to me, I like the interior design and the quality seem to be good IMO. Feels sluggish with the AT, but the MT is pretty fun to drive. I think the only problem is the A pillar, it makes it hard to see sometimes when you are turning.

I like the civics...I like how they drive. I think they're quite spirited for a small economic sedan.

the new insight is coming out pretty soon, going to get great MPG's and about as roomy as the current civic. It's not going to be like the last gen

now this is me. i work for Honda. I like 4 popper Accord better. but that's what i drive to work everyday.
to me the Civic(regular non-si) doesn't have enough juice. but to go to work i gotta drive a brief strech of interstate (which you're going 70-75 mph provided roads are decent) to me the 4- popper Accord a good blend of power(enough to get the job done) but it's not like a v-8 where it kills you in gas.

I had base civic with 4 adults cruising at 80 with no problem, it's no longer the 60's, pretty much any car made will safely cruise at highway speeds.

I have the 2.3 auto and I get 27-30mpg's mixed driving. Total city is more like 23ish

I do believe the Mazda is more sporty and fun to drive but you cant beat Honda with resale, mpg's, and reputaion.

Its a toss up for me, I dont mind either

ya, that sounds more like it. But then again their Mazda3's are 04 ones so may be there are problems that they don't know.

Buy the Civic. Made in Ontario (Canada). Keep us Canadians working! LOL ...

Now that I've had that off my chest, I drove 2 of the current gen Civics. Tried the hybrid and then EX back-to-back (sedans ... AT). I thought they were fine as econoboxes that got from A to B. I agree with iTimmy -- if you can get past the triangular window where the sideview mirrors are (up front) and the 2 tier dashboard (where digital speedo and the rest of the instrument cluster is) ... then you'll really like it.

Cloth interior with the hybrid felt like it was better than average quality and seemed it would be durable. I'm not sure if I'm a fan of the leather-like material in the EX model or how durable that would be.

I had an 06 Si coupe for two years and it was a perfect experience. Never had to go to the dealer for anything but oil changes. Not much torque down low but impressive power up high and the 8k rpm redline is awesome. My coupe had more room than my G37 does now and I loved the two-tier dash design (not everybody's cup-o-tea). Definitely one of the better cars Honda makes right now....

Modded SI= fun little car, a lot of mods choice to make it nice and fast.
Here's my former Si

Overall, Not a bad car. But way too played out for my taste.

uh only canada models
due to recent demands in the USA their made in Indiana at East Liberty Plant.
I work at the plant that builds the motors, cranks, axleshafts, brake rotors,
it's the largest engine plant Honda has in the world.

We have an '08 Civic Hybrid and love it, only complaints were that you couldn't get leather from the factory, which wasn't a big deal because the dealer we purchased from found a local installer who did a great job, and even with the navigation system you couldn't get integrated bluetooth telephone. I think that both of these items have been fixed for the '09 model, but as I said the car is great, a comfortable daily driver and great mileage.

I love my Si. Its an 06, been to the dealer for cracked sun visors, the passenger side fell off in my hand, and a 3rd gear syncro. Both covered under warranty.

I love the dual dash. I can drive with one hand at 12 o'clock and I can see my speedometer without looking around my hand or moving my hand.

IMHO, the Si is worth the premium.

Duh. He, of all people should know where its made. He works at the #1 Honda factory while putting out fires at his dad's farm with the truck so he can build engines while he drives the farm tractor...

Sorry, too many of those damned Xzibit pics in the other thread.

My parents bought an 08 EX-L back in August. I haven't driven it anywhere except to move it around the driveway, but I've taken a road trip in it as a passenger and it's pretty comfortable, much more so than the previous gen. I thought it was quite spacious for a smaller size car. It feels just slightly smaller than my TSX on the inside. The materials seemed to be of decent quality. Acceleration seemed like it should be ok for a daily driver. My parents love it and it's their first Honda product.

I'm not entirely crazy about my friend's 06 Mazda3, though. I haven't driven that car either, but I am not impressed with the interior materials vs. the Civic. Plus I just hate all that red lighting, it's just too much IMO.

my cousin has a base 4 door civic and i drove it one time. darn near fell asleep at the wheel if it wasn't for the fancy dash keeping me up.

it's not gonna turn any heads, but it's not gonna make you go broke either
