The Merkur and Contour were decent cars.

I liked the concept of the Vega-- especially the Cosworth version, and its 350 c.i. Monza cousin-- it's just that body integrity and engineering were lacking.

Some of the late '60s Japanese cars were awful, as were the Italian cars (but I think that was expected ), but the listed cars were magazine award winners.

My dad had a Renault Alliance that was a piece of crap (after about 100k miles and multiple trips from MA to FL)...

BUT... the Vega, Mustang II and some of the other cars are ok...

You would've hated my sister's, that thing always had something wrong with it. It ran great but it always seemed to have an issue to fix. I'd fix it, then something else, again I fix that, a couple weeks later, AGAIN!!! I wanted to push that thing off a cliff! I do admit though, that for a 4 cylinder it had some pretty nice power/acceleration. Then you would get to about 80 and the shaking would begin.... I swear I thought it was going to fall apart piece by piece.

The Mustang II is a crime just because its so ugly and it was the first Mustang with a 4-cylinder.

The Catera was one of the first Opels (the Omega) to come over to the US relatively unchanged. Not a bad effort, but Cadillac was the wrong GM arm to use. It should have been a Chevy or Pontiac.
