Only need it installed for a month, right?

Let me know how it goes. I can control myself for a month if it means I can save some money. Its almost winter anyways.

interesting didnt know about this till now...

can this make your insurance go up also??

I'd be skeptical about this. If people have this on cars and now when they enter fwys they'll take it nice and slowly to get to spped. Which causes more traffic and is more unsafe... I hate people that are in front of me on an on-ramp that enter at like 35 mph I feel like I would die if a truck is approaching us from behind.

^True. IIRC if you're on an onramp, as long as it's not reckless you can accelerate to 55 or 60 pretty rapidly. Well, you don't have to go at a cautious pace at least

That's according to Oregon traffic law, I believe. I think the way they worded it was something like "if you're getting on a highway onramp, you need to already be moving with the flow of traffic by the time you get on the highway or freeway"

I swear I want to kill someone when I'm stuck on the freeway, waiting for some 30 mph dolt ahead of me to speed up and merge, since I know their lane is going to end.

I see. I hit the redline occasionally when entering fwys

The telematics program sounds like it can do some really scary things to you. Hopefully the insurance company won't assess a premium increase for every speed limit violation, incidence of high acceleration or sudden braking, but I'd want to know what the company is looking for before signing up...

Your wife should probably ask you before doing stupid shit like this lol

But I would rip that thing out of my car so fast it would go back in time.

Park it, rent a car for a month and give your wife the bill.

I can live with driving normally for a month if it means I save on car insurance.

Now if the SO puts it on my car without my knowledge... that's a completely different story.

A customer of mine had this installed in her car, though she had progressive. She said that it monitored her mileage driven, but not everything else. Not sure if she knew all the details, but it looks like this monitors everything:

What does the Drive Wise® device measure?
It measures when you drive, your mileage, hard braking, rapid acceleration, and speed. These factors determine how much you save. If you’re a careful driver, you can save a lot. If you drive low miles, you can save even more.

http://www.allstate.com/drive-wise/main.aspx

I don't think you install it for a month only. I think you leave it in all year round. Maybe I'll put it in my wife's car. She drives to work, 5 minutes away, to the supermarket, 5 minutes away, and home. We returned her RDX with like 20k miles on it...That included 2 round trips driving from NY to Miami and 1 round trip from Ny to Myrtle Beach. If we didn't take those trips, she'd have like 11-12k miles on her car in 3 years. Maybe it'll help me. Insurance on her car now is ridonculously expensive ($2k/yr for her SRX with Allstate), considering we're both clean licensed drivers. Sucks balls.

I'm 23 (with one ticket) and my S2000 doesn't cost me half that with State Farm. You'd think it would be the other way around

No, it doesn't. Be a bit of a risk for some people to have it, otherwise.

they cant penalize me for anything on the drive-wise. the most they can do is not give me the 30% discount. which i couldn't care less to be honest. our insurance is dirt cheap anyways (under $110/mo for both cars)

i did a 900+ mile road trip with all kinds of driving mixed into it. started at 3am. should be plenty of "red flags". apparently it updates on an online account of mine, ill check it out.

OUCH!! I'm paying $2900 per year on three vehicles (12 Accord, 09 MDX, 97 Prelude), with a relatively new driver (my older daughter) on my policy with Amica.

Couldn't you put it on for a grocery store trip then take it off for the rest of the month? They'll think you hardly drive it and drive like a grandma

^ you mean $12 tolls now lol
total insurance cost is around $6k a year for me (12 Pathfinder, 02 Maxima, 06 Accord, 05 TSX)
if i remember correctly, the device can only give you a discount, not raise your insurance prices, so if you drive spiritedly, your insurance premium will stay the same, drive safer, insurance goes down.
my insurance (state farm) does not offer it or else i would get one to put on the tsx since its rarely driven in the wintertime

Somehow I manage to pay $900/year for my S2000 with full coverage and $500 deductible with State Farm. No idea how. The agent had to repeat herself when she said $75/month.

Pretty sure my car is $1200 a year (I'm on my parent's plan), but I have just the basic liability (what's required in NJ). I asked my mom to put collision and other coverage on, but she just told me it's not worth it since my car is a 2000
