After the CL-S what now?

Ok well miles are adding up and my car isn't getting any newer. I am starting to look at other cars even though I don't want to sell my 01 Cl-s for another year or so.
I am looking for a little smaller car but don't necessarily want a slower car. I have been looking at tsx's, civic si's, GTI's...but I don't know what I want. I know i will get flamed on but I kind of want an auto because of city driving and I don't want to spend more than 27K. Any ideas?

For a city car? Have you thought about getting a Fit? The Civic is also nice.
I assume this would be more of your DD?

Isn't the CL-s faster than all the cars you mentioned?

I live in the suburbs but drive in the city alot. Its Columbus, Ohio so its not a major city where all it is city. 15 minute drive your in the cornfields. I love my CL-S but its a bit too heavy for spirited driving and cornering so I wanted a little smaller of a car (use to have a 95 Integra which was perfect).
A fit would be a little too small and slow. Yes this will be my DD. thus I want semi good gas mileage.

Gibson...yes they are slightly slower but civic si's still do 6.7ish 0-60 and the new gti's are pretty fast too. I don't need anything faster than my CL-S but something that still has a little kick to it. My wife has an 07 TSX and that is slower than my CL-S but I would take it. Me personally would rather have a coupe of some sort though.

All opinions are well appreciated.
Any personal experiences with GTI's, Civics...?? any other cars?

Yea that might be an option esp. with the new g37's coming out..might be able to find a deal on a g35.
I would like to keep it fwd though. rwd in ohio winter don't mix.
Last week I saw a g35 lose it and end up in the ditch right after he drove past me.

Sorry guys I'm just so confused on what to get. All around the CL-S is a hard car to beat.

So you want 4 cylinder, fwd, and practical? Shit ... I dunno there are tons of those out there. None of them are particularly interesting or fun to drive. Good luck with that ...

G37's are already out.

but if you want a used G35 coupe, make sure it's a 2005+ since it has the better interior. (had to say it before someone does. )

but there are soo many options out there for under 27k.

do you prefer a 2 door or does it not matter?

350Z is an option.

but i'd look at the GTI...so much fun...

I'm looking for a rwd vehicle when I retire my CL, but if I wasn't looking at rwd, I'd consider:

Accord, Fit, Civic (don't like the dash tho), TSX, Subaru Legacy, Mazda 3 (or 6)...

Thats about what my list consist of.
I'm hoping to stick with H/A so Accord,Civic, and TSX are my top picks.
GTI is next down
Legacy is next (only because awd gets bad gas mileage and expensive for GT's) other that I want one.
Mazda 3 or 6 (i'd rather walk)

Also like to keep it around $25K.
If I can get at least 8K for my CL-S and then be able to pay cash for my new car straight up using savings.

In a year 01 CL-S w/ 90K miles going for $9K sound about right? Private sell that is.

From what you've described you want I'd go with a GTI.

i'd say new accord. my parents recently bought one, and i really like it. it looks good, and is pretty fun to drive. its fwd, and gets good gas mileage (theirs is a v6 so a 4 cylinder should b even better) so it meets your requirements. plus its in your price range.

yea I know...I think that might be one I might go for. I just don't know how reliability / maint. cost are on VW. Anybody know?
One good thing about H/A they are reliable and easy to work on yourself.

I was just wanting a slightly smaller car though. Not bigger. Accords are same size as an RL. If I got 4cyl accord that would be one slow boat.

Not the point. He is looking for inexpensive, practical cars, that also provide some fun...not modded racers. Just forget it....

It I was shopping for a car with that criteria, hands down my top two choices would be either

1. Civic Si

2. GTI/GLI

I know you also said you prefer automatics, then this tips the balance to the GTI/GLI. They offer an automatic, and not only that it's a DSG, one of the fastest shifting automatics in the world.

You can also chip a GTI/GLI for about $500 and add a shit load of power/torque to the car.

The cons to the GTI/GLI are that reliability is shakey, and from what I've read around the VW boards, VW service is absolutely horrendous. I've read several times of VW owners loving the product, but will not buy another VW because the service sucks balls. I know it's a general statement, but ask around the VW boards and that's what the majority of them will tell you.

I personally test drove a GLI Farenheit edition (fully loaded with some extras) and thought it was a nice car, with lots of torque down low.

Yea for the money, power and practicality the GTI does look like a good deal.
I am worried to have a turboed car for the long haul as well though. I would like to keep my car for at least 6-7 years and if VW service sucks and their reliability is scetchy I might go for a low mileage 08 tsx or a Civic Si (and deal with stick).
Like I stated earlier I am going to hold off for a little bit and see. I will hopefully stay in the Honda family so only time will tell.
I appreciate everyones opinion/ recommendations
Thanks!

What about the VW R32? Dealers in Columbus are advertising 3 yr leases for $400 a month, no money down.
