I found a new 2016 KC2 "Advance" available for 50.6.
Any used one, whether 2014 or 2016 will be about ten or fifteen less than that.
I dunno. I think my nominee is still in the running, relatively.

For $/hp I don't see that making the list. I mean for $40k you can find ALOT of used cars that make way more power.

LOL...he just loves his car, Jones...
I agree...I was thinking...shiet, he's really trying to shove that thing into fitting into this thread by stating that you might be able to find a killer deal and then may also find it for 10-15K less which would mean the stars would have to align and then you'd still need another $5K off to fit into the parameters for your list! Maybe add an "honorable mention" category at the end?

It's like calculating the date for Easter: It has to be the first Sunday after the first Full Moon after the Vernal Equinox, but of course it has to be after the Jews have Passover.
Yet as hard as it is, it keeps happening.
I dunno. Stranger things have happened.
I always seem to complain to Honda employees about what they did wrong, but then turning around and proposing this car outside the community because relative to other big sedans it's pretty awesome.

I think you'll see an increase in used prices soon. Just as we did with the 4G TL 6-6 SH-AWD, when people woke up after a couple of years to realize what they'd missed.

They didn't miss anything when they looked again at what they were considering
The 4G TL did a lot of things right and was a nice upgrade from the 3G TL... But it's looks are still so very polarizing...

Great catch!!! Also related is the Chevy 454SS.
Wish AZine allowed continuing edits to original posts....after 15min OP is locked so I'm relegated to updating by these posts.
So far updated:
Additions/Corrections to the List-
Mercedes-Benz E55/63 AMG
SL 55 AMG
C5 Z06
Ford Mustang SVT Cobras (Terminator, SN-95s, except for Cobra R)
Ford F-150 SVT Lightning
Chevrolet C/K 1500 454SS
edit: Just realized if one were inclined to, they can easily have a garage full of USDM specialty performance trucks and it's probably within obtainable ability of many financially prudent middle to upper middle class people:
GMC Syclone, Chevrolet 454SS, F-150 SVT Lightning, Ram SRT-10
SUV-body performance truck variants:
GMC Typhoon, Trailblazer SS, Grand Cherokee SRT-8 (not sure if Ford made a performance SUV....if anyone is aware of one please chime in, seems like GM and Chrysler all have performance SUV variants and I can't think of one off top of my head...)
Honorable Mention:
Acura RLX with Sport Hybrid SH-AWD
Heh nothing wrong with that but it is slightly not in fitting with the spirit of this thread. Though I think an honorable mention category may be created.
At this price point...the SH SH-AWD RLX becomes VERY enticing and is a LOT of car for the money. Barring SH SH-AWD reliability/repair/maintenance issues...

Ford Fusion Sport could be a contender I think. 325 hp, 380 lb. ft. of torque, starts at under $35k new.

Definitely throw in the Ford Lightning and the Dodge SRT10 truck. Beasts, both of them.
I like the STS-V as well but the engine in that thing is what would hold me back. I'd probably spend a bit more near the top price the OP set and get a higher mileage V2 CTS-V.
I would look at some of the older AMGs as well. Not sure you'll get a good E63 for under $30k, but definitely a nice E55 for that. I'd look at the older C32 AMGs as well, plus the older AMG SUVs...

I have lots of respect for the CTS-V I'm just saying for less than $20k you can't go wrong with the STS-V plus you get the rarity of it, so many people will approach you because they've never seen one or never knew they existed.
Hell people are reporting 550hp on just a smaller pulley and CAI.
EDIT: I'm not saying don't buy an STS-V I'm simply saying why factor it out of a purchasing decision.

Why would the engine hold you back? The LC3 motor is actually a great motor. Why spend $40k+ on a V2 CTS-V (Not hating on them at all) when you can get 470hp stock from a small displacement and a car with alot more room for less the $20k?

I haven't done too much digging b/c my car spending is on hold for the foreseeable future

Oh no man the LC3 motor is a solid motor. Many people have been able to see some very impressive numbers from that motor. It really was the best N* motor built and IMO the best DOHC motor GM built which idk if that says much but it's a solid motor

ANy concern for reliability/major repair issues with that engine?
Each car model seems to have certain weak spots and doesn't mean its a bad car. Just something an enthusiast should be aware of before jumping in the game and plunking down tens of thousands of dollars for a used example. The Audi have their carbon/timing chain issues, BMW with the VANOS/rod bearings, MB with the air suspension, Porsche with the IMS, Acura with the transmission, etc.etc. I mean no car/motor is perfect but for my own edification I'm wondering what the STS-V enthusiasts have raised as areas for awareness/concern for that motor?

When I told people I was looking at the STS they were like "Woah stay clear away from those" when I mentioned it was the V they went "Oh shit nevermind" In all honesty it is the most solid car I've ever had and I've owned ALOT of cars. I'm currently sitting at 122k miles and it rides like a dream. Remote start works, 3-Zone climate control works perfectly, front and rear heated seats work perfectly and get hot.
Oh okay I remember one other common problem the heated steering wheel button tends to short out which leads to a steering wheel replacement if you absolutely can't live without the heated steering wheel lol

Honestly before I bought this car I searched for common problems with it and the most common problem was the thermostat which is an easy fix. Other than the fuel pump recall it really is a solid car.

+1 on a CTS-V 2nd gen sedan. Plenty of examples in the upper $20's-low $30ks now. They are reliable and the drivetrain is nigh on indestructible unless you actively try to kill it. Many examples on the V forums with over 100k miles, and going strong.
+1 on RLX Sport Hybrid. My particular example is a 2014 and I fully expect it to be worth only $25k when I'm done with my lease in 10 months. Luxury sedan sleeper of the decade, for sure. I will verify that it is FAST. Until the NSX arrived, it was the fastest and most powerful production Acura. And did I say, FAST? It looks nearly exactly like a 9G Accord, though, I'm still scratching my head over mother Honda's decision to make it look so plebeian. I like the look, but it's not a classic look like my NSX.
Anyway, nist7, I like the list in your OP, I just wanted to comment on these two in particular.

Those aren't exactly unique, they were pretty poorly built even the SS model they only had the 3.9L V6 which made I think right around 240hp and weighing in at 3300lbs it was quite the pig. I can understand when you say unique but I think the proper term would be uncommon LOL

Haha, yeah. Though looking at the Chevy 454SS pickup its even more abysmal.....a 454ci motor (7.4L) pushing 230hp....ouch. Granted this vehicle was made in 1990....
But indeed, a STS-V at $14000 for 470hp is a ratio of incredible $29/hp!!! Definitely one of the best and much cheaper/likely easier maintenance than say a E55 AMG or a higher mileage example of a E63 AMG that is also a high luxury super sedan (though at a price premium 20-30k) that is also pushing 450-500hp
