Angry Acura RL 2008. Is it reliable?

I bought a new Acura RL Tech less than two weeks ago and it still has less than 400 miles. Already I had to bring it to the dealer twice for repair and to replace parts for various issues. So far, owning the car for less than 13 days, it has several problems. It's been in the shop for four days.

Is Acura/Honda quality going down? has RL owners dissapointed with quality/reliability of the RL?

there is a strong clicking sound coming from the front passenger seat if no passenger is sitting. the rattling sound is also coming from the column between the rear and the front passenger. this is specially noticeable when accelerate. the dealer said a part is bad and it is ordering to replace. the upper console where the homelink system is located is also making "mild" rattling sound that the dealer said they "checked" so this is probably fixed. Occassionally, when starting the car, the engine noise sounds normal, but at least three occassions, there is a huge abnormal 1Hz plastic slamming sound. Can't reproduce this one so didn't tell the dealer but I am sure its time will come. last, the car drifts to the right even in flat surface. I guess this cound be a "new tire" issue as I was just told but we will see.

I bought several new cars before throughout the years but this is the only one that gave me so many problems so soon.

To Sarlacc: no need to be offensive, sarcastic and use profanity.

That's a drag, sounds like you maybe got a bad one. This happens with cars from time to time, it happened to me with my 2003 Subaru WRX. Nothing but squeaks and rattles from everywhere in the interior.

This thread will probably be moved to the RL section, I think those owners will be able to give you more input.

Best of luck,
-Mirror

I'm no tech but here goes:

As for the passenger clicking noise, it could be the seatbelt buckle clacking against the b-pillar trim.

I have no idea about rattles though, hate em

Drifting to the right would be an alignment issue, most likely from the tires themselves. So if you did get new tires (and didn't get them balanced yet) then you would experience the aforementioned drifting.

As for Sarlacc, get used to him. He's funny and is not to be taken seriously. #1 requirement to be on AZ is to have thick skin and be able to sense sarcasm (we really mean to be sarcastic when its in red).

And to answer your question, there are quite a few happy RL owners here. Is Honda/Acura's quality going down? That's arguable, although in recent times they had a TSB for the 6-speed manuals and a few years back they had catastrophic failures of their 5-speed autos. Not to mention a few recalls, though on the Honda side. Put those together along with the lack of a V8 powertrain and RWD drivetrain layouts aside from the S2000 (out of my price range) and I don't even bother looking towards Acura.

You'll find that most people in this forum no longer own an Acura and are quited happy about it, myself included. I think most of us really want to go back, but they don't offer anything that interests us enough, so we move on. It's obvious that Acura spies on these boards, but they don't give a shit anyway. I think at this point Acura is more concerned about making money than making fun cars but I don't blame them. You're in business to make $$$, that should be your #1 goal. If it's not, good luck. Not to mention more people would prefer a Lexus or BMW, Audi, MB or Infiniti product. Too bad....

end rant

Sorry to hear about that man. I would love to have an RL, so you're quite lucky.

The only thing I can comment on is the tire and alignment issue. Check your tire pressure on all four tires again after not driving for at least 6 hours. This is the cold tire pressure, and how you should check it from now on. If all four are exactly the same, you may need an alignment. $50 should set you straight!

Lemon law what? He's had a couple of minor problems.
Do you even know what the lemon law is?

Exactly. And none of the issues mentioned have ANYTHING to do with reliability.

Personally, I have an '05 RL and have not had any major issues whatsoever.
