I'd get the 2008 535i. Twin-Turbo V6. Shits on any e-class (except amg of course, that's why there's an m5)

the only E class I've driven was the early w211 e320, which was underpowered, but it was extremely soft, and I didn't it find it very much fun at all.

I voted for the 5 series, as it should be more fun to drive, but I still think the 5 series is horribly ugly.

5-series. I think the E-Class is long overdue for an overhaul isn't it?

Plus Mercedes, yeah, I dunno. When you get into that class of car the Merc (except the AMGs) are for dentists and proctologists.

5-Series hands down.

I don't know. The e-class is just kind of to me.

It's just personal though.

I voted for the Benz. I've always thought as far as looks(and it's subjective i know) The Benz E class is one of the best looking sedans on the road. it's classic but it "ages well"
I've always had a soft spot in my heart for a E class.

5-Series (specifically the 535i)

E Class is a bit outdated now, the new one should be much closer competition.

Look at the manufacturer ratings. Mercedes has been very low on the reliability factor for years.

BMW outperforms it too. If going german I would only get BMW....forget Mercedes/VW/Audi IMO.

Nothing mercedes puts out wows me...BMW does. I don't even like the SLR Mclaren

5 series ftw. But then again if u want to save some more money like 10k get a 335i twinturbo or 2007 G35S. All those car go 0-60 in low 5 secs. E class meh mercedes makes ugly slow cars except amg.

That's changed. Look at JD Power for 2008. Mercedes is back up at the top-10 again IIRC.

I like the Mercedes better personally. Then again, I've never driven a BMW, nor have I been in one in many years.

I'd have to say the Merc, cause if you get the BMW you'd automatically become a king of the road prick

1) I would get the one I liked driving and being in best.
FWIW, the sport suspension option on the 535i is harder-riding than that option on the E350. I haven't been in either car with a "standard" suspension.
I prefer the E350 interior to that of the 535i.
The 5 has a manual transmission option while the E is auto trans only.

2) The poll is invalid without a "Whiskers" (buy a Ford Focus and save on gas and $$$) option.

Especially since the redesign in 2004, this car exudes class. And I'd rather be seen in that than the 06 5 series. The previous gen 5 series (540I) would be OK. Not htis new one.

They always say you want to drive a bimmer & ride in a benz .... so if you're into performance, then 5 series; if you prefer ride quality, then a benz ... personally I prefer a bimmer 'cuz it seems to have more soul in them .... just my cents ...

I love the white E class with the (black) glass top/sun roof..... which IMHO is what started the whole trend of white colored car, black top...

Maybe on sedans....

NSXs had them in 1991....

oh and neither. E60 5-series is still kinda weird looking IMO, it looks too much like a mom mobile. But can't get worse than the E-class though... Audi ftw!

yeah, but... no body followed the NSX in doing so.... the trend recently rise BECAUSE of the E Class.... I mean... you can say the NSX was the first... fine... but the style didn't go anyway until now.

E class all the way. Unless you get a 550i or M5, the styling of the 5 series is a bit on the bland side. On the other hand, the standard E 350 and E500 look excellent and their interiors are of a higher caliber design .

Mmmmm ~380hp at the crank.

I read somewhere that the 535i and the 550i aren't really that different performance-wise, something like .2 seconds 0-60, since the twin-turbo is so underrated. Chip it and you'll have a sleeper that will eat 550i's and E550's all day errday.
