2005 Lincoln LS V8

Well, ive been searching the internet for reliability answers all day for my gf. she's found an 05 Lincoln LS V8 in her price range. It has 35k miles on it and its coming from a dealership.

she is coming from an 00 TL that was just completely shot to hell. she bought it from one of those shady used car dealerships before i met her and had nothing but problems with it as it was out of warranty and becoming a complete money pit (mainly the tranny). so, she now wants an affordable vehicle with comparable options after driving a nice car like the tl and came across this LS.

personal opinions aside of looks, handling, etc. how is the reliability of this car? i drove one a while back and it was a very nice ride aside from the yacht-like handling.

anyway, any help would be awesome. i would hate to see her endure another money pit and slew of headaches after the TL put her through hell and left us stranded on an NJ to NC trip once as well. thanks.

My friend has an '03 V8 LSE and it constantly has transmission and electrical problems. I think it's mostly the ignition coil.

Talk her into the Maxima.

My friend has one, she consistently experiences issues with the coil packs and the windows getting out of track, other then that it has been relatively good.

any chance you can get her into something smaller?
a large v8 sedan isnt exactly economical.

We bought my wife a 2006 LS with HID's, heated/cooled seats, stability control, etc last year.

It had 12k miles on it and originally stickered for $45k. It was 1.5 years old and has a 75k drivetrain warranty, and we got it for $20.5k

Its been real good so far, minor squeaks and too much brake dust but no electrical or reliability problems. The older ones are known to have coil problems I believe.

+1!!!! I had a 2000 that was an electrical nightmare! Granted reliability was supposed to get better over the years but still I've heard nothing but bad things about the car. I loved it other than that.

The 04 RL is a much better car than the LS V8.

so just to update unfortunately she hates the look of the rl (i dont know why :-/ ) guess its not really appealing to females. anyway, so its down to a choice between an 06 maxima se black on black leather + navi 49k miles, and an 05 black on black 3.5 sl altima with navigation, but 66k miles. the altima is listed for 12,500 and the maxima is listed for 15,995.

any input? what do you think we can get either car for. i know a good amount about the nissans and the mighty vq engine, but in terms of a good deal which one seems better? they are both from the same dealership.

i also need an altima expert to answer me one question, when my gf was test driving it the altima had a bit of a whine to the engine under acceleration, dare i say like a very faint supercharger. Is this normal for the 3.5 altima to have? I've only had up close and personal experience with the maxima, but have not been in or driven too many altimas.

edit: after some searching it appears the timing chain is going bad... so i guess that scratches the altima off the list

either car would be good, just would be how comfortable she is driving them.

Either car should be good. I would side with the Maxima, as it has lower miles and seems to have better options.
