2002 VW GTI 1.8t

I have been looking for a new car for awhile now. I like the RSX-S but maybe not enough power. The WRX seems real good because of turbo, but it is not the most aerodynamic or best looking car. Also the GTI, it has a lot of mod potential. A $500 chip will give it about 195hp/240 lbs tq. That is a lot of power just to start off with. However, it seems that a lot of people associate GTI's with a homosexual community. Does anyone else see this? What do you think out of all these choices. I really like the CL-S but I need a manual

GTI is ghetto not homo, Cabrio is homo. Get the GTI.

Then again I'd get the WRX cause that is pimp looking and pimp handling with some pimp accl.

Yeah, I like the GTI and the WRX. I dont really know about resale on either but I assume that it is not that good on the WRX. I used to have a 98 prelude and I really miss it. I want a turbo so that I can just make it haul ass. And I want something that I can toss around as well. No matter what I do, I feel like I am downgrading because I have gotten spoiled with the CL-S. I just want to have fun driving again. Anyone have any experience racing either of these cars? Thanks for the help.

I haven't driven any one of the GTI, WRX, RSX. For me speed is not everything, style is important. My friend's Golf was tight, and the GTI would be more fun. The WRX is ugly IMO. The previous year's Impreza look better, but of course didn't have the HP.
RSX seems nice. Haven't seen one up close so can't comment too much.

a friend of mine just bought a jetta 1.8t. my sister and her friend were messing with him saying the jetta is a fags car. sure enough they directed us to a website that named the jetta the #1 car driven by gay men. i am in no way a homo and i think the jetta is a cool car, no cls but a cool car still

How would an extra chip give you bunch of HPs??? Wouldn't manufacturer put that chip in the first place... the chip in VW and Audis is one big urban myth.

An new chip makes more hp in a turbo Audi/Volkswagen because of the electronically controlled wastegate. Unlike for instance, an Eclipse or Talon, the boost is controlled by the ecu. A new "chip" remaps the wastegate and fuel settings allowing for more power. It is not a myth, check a dyno on an APR chipped 1.8T...

Chipping does make alot more power. Go to www.goapr.com and look at the ecu upgrades.

I have a 98 Jetta VR6 and I have owned the GTI also, the cars are great. The new GTI 1.8 T is a good car and handles well, but i still dont feel that it handles better than the GTI VR6 or Jetta VR6. Yes, with mild mods you can get 200 HP out of the 1.8 T, while with the VR6 you need to make more mods which will give you a very satisfying result. My VR6 is modded with cams, exhaust, chip and intake and it lays down whp of 185.6 and 180 lbs-ft Trq. At the Flywheel the car is rated at 210 HP and 194 lbs-ft trq.

its cause they boost the boost up, but that causes turbo lag and faster turbo wear

I own two cars a 2001 cl-s and just recently bought a '02 gti and I'm very satisfied with it. For $20,600 I got the '02 silver /blk leather, sunroof, the premium sound alon with an extended warranty,..basicly everything except the 17" because they wanted a extra $ 2,000 for them. I got 180hp and 174 lb. torqe and they say it only lost 10 horses at the wheels. The 0-60 with a manual is 6.9(M.T.) and a 1/4 mile in 14.9 (m.T.) bone stock....it's fast, fun, to drive and would definently recomend!!!!!!!!!

YOu lose about 12% in HP/TQ on the manual transmission and not 10 HP. If that were the case the engine would be super efficient and fall in the 95% efficent range and most engines from the top manufactures are about between 80 to 85% efficient.

6.9 is possible for the car on 0-60, depending on driver and traction. Better check your sources for a 14.9 1.4 though. Any of these I have raced stock I have taken by 2-6 cars or better at nearly a 1.4 mile. My 98 3.0 cl totally stock was always dead even with the 1.8 turbos in 0-60 and 1/4's and it was rated at 8.0 0-60 and 15.9 1/4's

Keep in mind that the older 1.8T was rated at 150hp and 155lb*ft while the newer 1.8T is rated at 180hp and 174lb*ft which I've heard is conservative. Some of the newer 1.8T GTIs are putting down around 170hp to the wheels stock.

yeah, this motor easily genrates 225hp & 207 lb-ft. in the Audi TT

basicly raise the boost some & if you improve the intercooler, downpipe, ehaust etc. with aftermarket parts more power is easy
