Re: What happened to Nissan here??

LOL. thats pretty funny IMO. look at all the poor shmucks below the industry avg. I dont mean to dig up the past but, i think a few days ago someone was saying that Infiniti has nothing on the reliability of Acura? well whats with this figure, per 100 cars Infinti has 219 problems and Acura has 255? close but that tells me Infinti's are leading in that category. granted Nissan is suckin hardcore there but i think JDP&A are counting all cars on the road in 2001 b/c they also counted geo and eagle, which we all know do not make cars anymore. so there were some really shitty Nissans so yes it can be said that Nissan has NOTHING on Honda BUT not for infinti and acura, that one is too close to call.

Stay away from Mitsubushi and Mazda. All of you people taking about getting a Mitsubushi Evo when it comes out good luck...it might be fast but it'll be a POS.

Look at Jaguar, JUst plain pimp. ever since Ford took them over they have been in the top 3 the last like 5 years. SO much for everyones american car theory.

I don't know correct me if I'm wrong Lincoln, caddy, buick, mecury all came in better than BMW yet, those are american cars, how can american cars be so good. I think the stupid stereotype should go.

That's pretty disturbing since I am buying a Nissan (350Z), but I'm going to blame it on all those Sentras out there. They are made in Mexico, you know?

...snip...
Impressive indeed... After I read about the X-Type's muffler falling off on Edmunds road test, I figured Jag was well on it's way to being just another Ford division.

This is initial quality folks. This is how many problems someone might experience when the vehicle is new...it says nothing about the quality when the vehicle has 10,000, or for that matter, 100,000 miles on it.

Give that Buick, Ford, Merc 5 years and watch the cookie crumble.

What they should have is a 100,000 mile reliability rating, I think Acura/Honda might do better then.

Point well taken, but nothing would come close to Lexus at 100,000 miles.

AcuraFanatic was right about this being initial quality. This is right off the truck before you even drive it home. Keep in mind these problems per 100 will also include things like a paint dribble, glass distortion, streaking windshield wiper, alignment off . . .

I believe the Initial Quality Survey covers the first 90 days of ownership.

Exactly, just wait until the Jaguar owners actually rack up a few thousand miles.

Sorry, but it's the latest model XJ series that gave them an awesome run in reliability. Ford didn't have anything to to with the initial design of the XJ line. We'll really test what Ford has done with the new X and S types. Should be interesting to see if Jaguar can stay close to top.

U're correct, JD Powers survey forms have to be returned within 30-90 days of buying the new vehicle... That's nothing...

I remmember wanting to get a Z06 for years, JD Powers says it's the best, my ass... Tons of Z06 owners sell their vettes within a couple of years, just look at Chevy's used car lots

Want real stats on long term, check out :

Hey I am not patting Ford on the back wathsoever but the S-type has been known as a realiable car, It is the XJ series if anything that has been having problems. My dad's XJR has been in the shop because the whole front dash electronics messed up and also tranmission failures. The X-type and S-type should be realible cars with the except of I'm betting a few small things on the x-type being it is the first year for that car. And we all know what happens when you buy the first year of a car

It can't exactly be known for its reliability if it is a first year car. :P

JD Power Surveys

You guys need to look at the name of the survey again. This is the Vehicle Dependability study, not IQS. This survey is after 4 years (or 5, I'm not sure) of ownership, so it does show how the cars hold up over the long term - it doesn't show initial quality.

Just FYI.
