1995 Z28 w/ $7k Engine Mods vs. Stock 1998 M3....guess who won!!!!

Surprisingly, I won the second race! We did good ol' street racing yesterday. Had a guy set us up and throw down the 'flag' for the notion to 'go'. First race, he beat me by about 1/2 car length when I put on my brakes during the merge from 2 lanes to 1. We went back and I wanted another try since I thought I had too much wheel spin on my launch.

This is a friend's car who has extensively put on lots of mods. They said that stock, this car comes with 285hp w/ 6-speed. Now, hes done $7k in mods and ONLY beat me by 1/2 car length the first time.

Second race, good launch and I'm ahead of him all the way! Couldn't even see in my side window. By 3rd gear he had gained enough to be taking me over, however by the time we got to the merge I slammed on my brakes because he wasn't slowing down and he started to drive on the dirt shoulder.

Well, I think if I were the guy who owned the Camaro, I'd shoot myself since my STOCK car kept up and won once. After the races, the guy starts putting up lots of excuses like, you had a head start or some BS like that. Go figure!

Its was much better than therapy. But I hate it when a car stays with me through the whole stretch. I like to either blow it away or get blown away.

First of all I doubt that he had 7K in the car. I am partial to z28 b/c I just sold mine to buy my type-s. I had a 30th anniversary edition with about 2K in it and I could kill most anything on the road. Per G-tech I was running 0-60 in 4.67. And I know M3's are not even close to that. So with 7K you can make a camaro run 11's or better. Either there was 7k in stereo mods or he didn't know how to drive. No offense to you but Z's are fassssst. Stock they can beat M3's.

People have a hard time separating the car from the driver...

He beat the driver, not necessarily the car.

I have beaten a completely modded Civic Si at the track (intake, headers, exhaust, pulleys) at the track that should have destroyed me easily with a decent driver. Having a manual isn't always a good thing if you can't take advantage of it.

Thats why I was surprised at this. Got a question for you. This car sounded NOTHING like a camaro should! Sounded very nice! He upgraded to the SS exhaust, however he only had one tail pipe. Does the SS only have one tailpipe?????

As for the $7k in mods, thats what he was telling us. I saw the short throw shifter in the car and the exhaust, but didn't see much else because no one asked him to open the hood. He did have huge tires on that SOB. I'm not saying the Z28 is a slow car, just wondering WTF!? How did I win?

Yes the SS came with Single out the Left exhaust. The new 2001 SS's have duel I believe, but for that year the SLP exhaust for chevy was one sided. And it is nice sounding but nothing like Flowmaster exhaust. I had flowmasters and I use to set off car alarms when I drove by because it was so deep and loud. I miss her a lot but she was just no good in the winter. Needed a compromise. If you ever see this guy again just tell him his car is very immpressive but he should go back to the DMV to retry the driving test cause he sucks. Haha. BTW I love M3's too I wish I had the $$$

I think it was a dual tip/pipe single exhaust for the earlier SS.

Musta spent that $7k on appearance mods because if he spent $7k on engine mods he would have handed you your ass without a question.

The camaro with 7k of mods done right would be a 11-12 second car. if Damaged was driving the camaro, he would have won. Damaged is a better driver.
So many people forget that reaction time can cost 1 sec+ to the unexperienced. the same was the case yesterday morning in my post when I smoked a 540i twice. We all know that should not have happened, but I was the better driver. :p

This belongs in racing stories, not car talk... And probably on a Camaro or BMW forum, but we won't go there...
