Don't you guys remember the original KITT though? His specs were pretty insane....

It says the last part of the article is fake. I also have the hard copy of the magazine with the official nubers of the car, but there is no way I can show you that unless you go and pick up a copy for yourself. I don't think it hit the stands yet but it should soon. I am a subscriber.

Your post reminds me of when i was in the 7th grade and a freind of mine quoted an article in Road and Track that said the new Corvette did 0-60 in .5 seconds. I argued that was impossible; there was no way the new Corvette did 0-60 in .5 seconds. All day we argued back in forth. The next day he brought in the magazine. Sure enought the article said the new Corvette did 0-60 in .5 seconds. "In your face," my freind exclaimed. Until I finished reading the sentence. The new Corvette did 0-60 in .5 seconds faster than the previous model.
The Mach 5 was the most amazing automobile I had ever driven, surpassing my every expectation. But it being in the hands of these characters didn't seem right. So I decided to do the unthinkable: steal it. Without warning, I flung the car around and sped toward the exit. The door was closed so I activated the saws. As if expecting this to happen, Hobart and his crew drew out AK-47s and started firing as they jumped into their own souped-up machines. The bullets bounced off the Mach 5's body like hard raindrops, and a race to the border ensued... This last part, and much of everything else, is a re-creation of what may happen in a Speed Racer episode and the upcoming movie. As for driving a real Mach 5, I'll just have to keep pretending.

The kid was just comma challenged he saw: The new Corvette did 0-60 in .5 seconds, faster than the previous model.
It is what I call an "Eats, shoots and leaves" problem, anyone get the reference?
0 to 60 in .6? Kinda like this thing ---> http://ca.youtube.com/watch?v=flXu7br_VOg

He never read the rest of the sentence on the next line.

Speed Racer's Mach 5 Car "Tested" in Road & Track Mag
posted on 2008-02-28 23:46 EST
US$5-million movie mockup: 1,700 hp, 305 mph, 0-60 in 0.6 seconds
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Not-So-Daily Link of the Day: The current issue of Road & Track magazine (April 2008) features a fictional "April Fools' road test" of the Racer Motors Mach 5 car mockup that was built for the upcoming Warner Brothers Speed Racer movie. The May 9 movie adapts the classic Mach Go Go Go (Speed Racer) car-racing anime series for live-action. According to the article, the US$5-million vehicle has a 1,700-horsepower turbo-charged V-12 engine that is capable of propelling the Mach 5 all the way to 305 miles per hour (491 kilometers per hour). The article also says that the Mach 5, with "tire crampons" engaged, is capable of 6-g turns and quarter-mile (0.40-kilometer) runs in 2.6 seconds.
Road & Track's performance figures, which include a 0.6-second 0–60-mph (0–97-kmph) sprint, were provided in a digital simulation provided by Polyphony Digital, the Sony subsidiary behind the Gran Turismo series of PlayStation car-racing games. The simulation assumed a car with the fictional mechanical capabilities of the Mach 5, including the previously mentioned 1,700-hp V-12, tire crampons and a 2,455-lb (1,114-kg) curb weight.
The full article is available online on Road & Track's website and features photos of the mockup vehicle that is currently being displayed at various auto shows. The complete fictional data sheet is also available.

School Rumble DVD 4
Laughs of every stripe still abound as the series turns its hand to slightly more serious material. Any missteps it makes along the way are easily forgiven blemishes in a comedy that, while silly, is neither stupid nor shallow. Ramen Fighter Miki Sub.DVD 3
For those afraid that the series will effectively remove the "fun" from "dumb fun" by trying to wring pathos from its paper-thin premise, it will be a relief to know that this volume is brimming with enough lowbrow fun to make a Stooge smile. Hell Girl GN 1
Where the animated version was a spooky, if repetitive, trip into hearts of darkness, compressed timeframes and a remarkably inappropriate artistic approach transform this paper version into a toothless mess. Be With You GN
Released concurrently with its paperback novel version, this manga adaptation tells a heartfelt love story shaped by mystery and wonder, albeit one dependent on a questionable gimmick and mediocre artistry. Flag DVD 2
Superb attention to military technical detail and its highly unusual documentary style highlight a strong second volume notable for getting politically edgy. It will either utterly fascinate you or utterly not work for you. Love Master A GN 1
So to all the high school girls out there: give the Student Council a try if you want to pick up some hot guys. But don't give Love Master A a try if you want to pick up some fun, fresh manga, because this one is pretty stale. Ragnarok The Animation DVD 2
Although not entirely without entertainment value, these episodes offer little respite to those thoroughly disappointed with the first volume. It is a textbook case of how not to adapt an MMORPG into anime format. Naruto Uncut DVD Box Set 6
This set covers episodes 66-78, which conclude the Chunin Exams and begin the attack on the Hidden Leaf Village. As frustrating as the content may be to watch, it does have its moments. The Third GN 1
The paper-and-pictures version of The Third may be a fun diversion for those looking for an action-adventure fix, but it still has its flaws. Don't expect anything beyond the usual fancy leaps and explosions. Hell Girl DVD 3
The series may drag at times, but these middle episodes still have some clever twists in store. In one of the most powerful episodes so far, we find that the roots of Hell Girl's existence run deep into the past.

Sounds like my cousin who's training to fly F-22s now cause he graduated top of his class at Air Force academy. Kick ass, taht's what I always dreamed of. Don't know if my tall and thin body could withstand the g's though without blacking out
And lets not forget that if this car really could run the quarter in < 3 seconds it'd be trapping a wee bit higher than 197mph. Shit, high 7 second cars trap at around 180.
Actually, I punched the numbers into a QM calculator. A high 2 second car would trap at ~500mph.

The numbers simply don't add up, even for fiction.
