$70k for a Car....Which Would You Pick?
$70k for a Car....Which Would You Pick?
Hey All,
I don't post much here but I visit almost every day as I learn more and more about cars.
I currently have a 2008 TL-S that I love.
I have to drive to work approximately 45 mins each way and I want something a little different.
I am looking for a combination of:
- performance
- luxury
- family (ie: more than 2 seats).
My budget is fairly flexible and I am looking to buy not lease. I'd probably want to keep it at least 3-4 years (or more).
I average 15k miles/year.
My budget is $70k give or take some.
I have looked at a wide variety of cars:
- BMW 550i fairly loaded (2011)
- Nissan GTR (I know, I know...but it is a fun car to drive but not much of a daily driver and the upkeep expenses are unreal)
- Mustang GT500 (another less practical car but also fun to drive; the luxury part, however, is not there)
- Cadillac CTS-V (Have not driven the "V" version...the normal CTS was blah)
Any suggestions? I don't have an Audi dealership near me but I'm a little turned off by the reliability reports.
The BMW would have turned me off reliability-wise but it sounds like they have really kicked it up a few notches, lately.
Thanks, guys.

The V would be fun too, but I don't think you can compare the finishing touches on the inside... But for that price, I'd track down a low mileage m5... Hell I found this beautiful beast near me... got me thinking for that price.

A jaw dropping 500hp V10 Sedan for $46k. Depreciation and patience are our best friends. Wowzers, now you got me thinking...
Since you even have considered the Shelby and Nissan it seems like performance is pretty high on your list.
I'd therefore recommend the CTS-V.
Others to consider:
Audi S4
BMW 550i
BMW M3 sedan
Infiniti M
Mercedes C63 AMG
Lexus IS F
I don't know how much room you want.

Some I forgot
Jaguar XJ- you'd be able to squeeze into a 380 horsepower 5.0 std wheelbase
Jaguar XF Supercharged 470 horsepower and tremendously fast, but I don't know about Jaguar reliability on either of the above.
Lexus LS460 Sport- not as sporting as some of the listed vehicles but should be a rock solid, reliable vehicle now that they ironed out the steering issue. Power, decent economy, fantastic materials and finish, room to spare, style, prestige. A fine choice.
Audi S6? Mercedes CLS550? On second thought just wait for the 2011 CLS.

The S5 isn't that bad. Much like the 335i Coupe, there is more room in the back than there looks to be.

Oh yeah.
OP, have you considered a base '11 XJ ($72,500)? 385Bhp V8 & all kinds of amazing little features. It's quite a car for the family. Not going to be super fast in this trim, but I imagine it will hold its own w/ near 400 on tap. Unless of course, you want the Supercharged (470Hp) or more-so, the Supersport (510), but prices jump around an extra $10K in between each engine.
Stunning car, none-the-less.
