So Honda is auctioning off serial number 1 and the current bid is $200k, people must really like blowing money around.

^ Yeah, I wouldn't be surprised to see this end up in Charlotte. Although not sure how big he would be on a Civic... he does like those #001 VINs!!

I can see/understand that. I just don't see a civic ever being a collectors car or gaining in value to the point it exceeds the "investment". Especially since it is going to be a production car and not limited production or anything like that.

proceeds usually go to a charity.
the 2017 NSX #001 sold for 1.2 million to Rick Hendrick and the proceeds went to help sick children with cancer.
Mr. Hendrick also bought the first '15 camaro and i think '16 corvette all #001
so, while not "collectors cars" he is in the business of collecting #001

Yes but you have to deduct the FMV of the vehicle itself from the donation amount. i.e, you (stupidly) paid $200k and the car is worth $40k so your deduction is $160k.
