Water drop macro

Since I am stuck home recuperating I decided to try something new. I shot water drops on plexiglass over colored backgrounds (similar to those in a recent contest on circles).

I learned how to control my 430EX flash via wireless off camera mounted on a second tripod. I need to find a piece of glass though as the plexiglass, even though it was brand new, had many scratches on it, even after 3 coats of Four Star UPP.

Here's a couple of the shots. There are a few more on my Flickr page: http://www.flickr.com/photos/ken_from_md/

Good work! Lowes or HD have small precut glass, that you can use. Got mine from Lowes. Also use RainX to help bead better and keep glass clean longer.

I went to the nearest Lowes and all they had was the Plexiglass. I couldn't find real glass there at all. I'll check Home Depot once I can drive again.

That really surprises me, did you go to the building section? I remember it being near the 2x4 's.

I am recovering from surgery for oral cancer. Had a tumor removed from my cheek and filled with a patch from my wrist. It's been about a month and there is still pretty significant swelling, but other than that I am feeling well again.

I'm sorry to hear it. Lots of rotten health news around these days. I hope they got it all and that you recover quickly.

I should have included that the pathology of the margins and all the lymph nodes was negative. The surgeons removed all the cancer and I will not need radiation or chemo.

I cannot thank the team at the University of Maryland Medical Center enough. They were fantastic before during and now after the process.

I just need to recover and regain full motion of my jaw, mouth and neck. Unfortunately the swelling could take months to go away completely. My next doc appointment is this Thursday and I am hoping that I will be able to drive soon, but more importantly start eating real food again. I have been on pureed and soft food since the surgery. I would kill for a cheeseburger right now.

Thanks Jup!

I've dropped about 15 pounds, mostly while I was in the hospital. Been drinking a lot of Boost to maintain weight and health.

Crap, very sorry to hear that! At least it sounds like they caught it at an early stage.

Screw Thursday. Call the doctor, tell him/her you need a cheeseburger fix NOW, and then go to carryoutmenu.com and order a 14-oz Delirious burger or, better yet, a 20-oz Pounder burger from CheeBurger CheeBurger for home delivery. That should last you for several meals. Or maybe not....

Thank God you're cancer free. You'll be having cheeseburgers for a long and healthy life time.

Awesome pics btw.

cool!

if you ever want the water droplets to bead into perfect round shape, apply a thin layer of Rain-X before dropping the water on the surface (as mentioned by Jup)

is300eater - I watched the video you posted on how to do this. I didn't have Rain-X so I used the UPP. As noted the bubbles aren't round. I need to get some Rain-X and real glass before I try again.
