at 2.8 you should be at around 1/10 or so, not slower. But that doesn't explain your 4.0 performance. I don't have any experience with the Lumiquest Softbox - it's possible that might be the issue. Try it with a bounce card facing forward, if you get a chance.

can you try a shot just like that except at 1/10 or so? I feel like 1/4 is too slow for 2.8

ohh yea its kind of funny switching between the 1DIIn and 40D. i guess im so used to the viewfinder on the rebels and XXD that everytime i switch to the 1D i keep forgetting to look at the exposure meter. i messed up a small handful of images because of that.

Armin @ Aragon Ballroom Chicago 10.09.2009

awesome event!!!

I really surprised myself by using the Tamron 28-300 VC for most of the shots this night - probably about 80% (out of about 1200 shots). Some 50mm, but almost no 24-70. And I'm still getting used to the lens and still kinda doubting it, but I think this night made me a believer of it! EXIF is in place on some of these. The light trail shots are handheld at around 249mm - those really surprised me.

one of my NIN shots from the September show at Aragon Ballroom made Deviantart "daily deviation", always fun when that happens.

hey when you started off, were you going to these clubs on your own or with a few buddies?

i dont have very many friends up here into this kind of music so id probably have to end up going on my own.

yeah when I started I was going with people, it's kind of a weird feeling to go to a club by yourself, if you've never done it before. And then when I started doing it more and more I felt more comfortable going by myself, because I felt more like I was "on a mission" than going just for fun - and also I was getting to know more and more people.

Nowadays it seems to be rather common for people who are "in the industry", I mean hell many of the dancers you see me post go to the clubs by themselves on their nights off, just because they meet up with all their people at the club. I'll just go to a club even if I don't have my camera and I'll run into a lot of people I know and it's all good. Understand I been doing it for over 3 years, which is a pretty long time for going to clubs lol. I don't even think anything about going by myself now, because I meet all my friends there.

If it's something you are serious about getting into, the sooner you start the better, get yourself known with the security, owners, managers, and bartenders, along with the dancers and do some quality pictures and you will be noticed.
