Ok, so i'm learning quickly that photography is helluva expensive hobby. I've decided to go with the Nikon 105mm VR Micro for macro shots. Now i'm undecided on what to add next... I'm deciding between the Nikon 10.5mm f/2.8 fisheye lens or a super-wide angle lens, also Nikon brand lens. I'm thinking the Fisheye will be lots of fun as will the Macro lens but i'm open to hear what your thoughts are.

What do you have for wide right now? A FE is one of the lenses that most add last.

I'd get your basic needs handled first, then think about specialty stuff like a fish eye. And yes, it is very expensive.

Cover the "standard" ranges before thinking about the fish-eye.

Canon EF-S 18-200mm f/3.5-5.6 IS

Opinion? I'm looking to upgrade my lens and this one has the zoom range covered, but not sure about the quality of the lens.

Hasn't been getting the best reviews but it does have a very versatile working range. You're always going to have compromises with a zoom range like that.

I think, depending on your needs and how critical you are about image quality, it could be a good solution. It does have IS, which is nice.

If you have to get only 1 lens to cover that range, it's not a bad option, but it seems like the other superzooms from Tokina/Tamron/Sigma are just about as good.

For the same price (or even a little less) you can get a 70-200 f/4L which will trounce the 18-200 in image quality and focus speed. If you have a kit lens, to cover the 18-55 range, that's really all you need.

What are your guys thoughts on the Canon EF 24-105/4L IS USM lens to replace my 18-55 IS as a walk around/main lens?

if you dont shoot wide angles alot then yes its a great lens.

but if you do shoot wide angles alot the 24mm is going to limit you.

i have a nikon D60 and the kit lens 18-55mmVR I'm thinking about getting a 50mm 1.8D, but I don't know if I should just save the money towards a Sigma 10-20 or 55-200mmVR. I really want a wide angle lens but the 10-20 is quite a hit to the financial go-nads. Any advice? Thanks

That lens it great really no matter how use it. It doesn't just hold you to using as a macro, it can be used for just about any subject you want. If you really want to take it to another level with macro, get some extension tubes.

If you need the reach then the 55-200 would be a good start. If you want wider, take a look at Tokina's 11-16 2.8.

I have it and love it.

Check out synth's thread (below). There's also another link in that thread to more discussion earlier in this thread.

Yup, the Canon 10-22 f3.5-4.5. Set for delivery when I am out of town, though

Picked up a B+W CPL from HVstar, too, but that won't be here for a few more weeks I am sure...

I just did some moon tests with my D3 and D100 to test out the doubler on both...wow, my d100 SUCKS. how did I live with this thing for so long.

And the doubler definitely takes away some sharpness ...but I'll be shooting in bright daylight tomorrow, so I should be fine.

just bought a tamron zoon lens for the parents... testing it out.

out of the box it was ok, LOUD auto focus but bearable. took a few shots and an Error 9 popped up. googled it, supposedly a lens malfunction. now the lens is EXTREMELY dark, tried for days to auto focus, etc and cant take a picture with auto focus... has to be in manual.

bought it used off of ebay to cover the zoom aspect but now i think it was not a good idea... its an AF 70-300 f/4-5.6 di. had ok reviews, thought it was decent for a start lens...

any ideas what i can do with this? and any amateur zoom lens maybe to replace it?

EDIT. this is the one http://www.amazon.com/Tamron-75-300m...8675130&sr=8-7

I'm not going for anything at that price. 10g is a nice down payment for a Challenger when I get that kind of scratch again.

At that cost...the couple times I'll be using it in the near future, $100 bucks a pop for rental will suit me fine.

I am rather new to the DSLRs but was lucky enough to scoop up a Canon 30D w kit lens for $350 in very mint condition after my friend's wife upgraded.

After reviewing different lenses I decided to pick up the Canon EF 70-300mm f/4-5.6 and Canon EF-S 10-22mm f/3.5-4.5. I just hope I don't get raped on customs fees when I have these shipped abroad.

Yeah, I figured I got a solid deal on the 30D. He and I always exchange or sell our older electronics back and forth. I like the controls on the 30D more than the controls on my gf's D60.
