New Body

I am looking to get a new Canon body.

I am leaning toward the t3i with Magic Lantern, any thoughts.
I was also looking at the 5d, but it is over double the price and with the Magic Lantern on the T3i you don't get that much more functionality.

Just starting, get the T3i. And I guess you're talking about the 5D2 as being double, a used 5D would be just a couple hundred dollars more than a new T3i.

Thanks

That was the way I was leaning.
I am not a pro and for as much as I use the camera, I cannot justify the price.

Take them in your hands, hold them both. Play with the menus.

The cameras are very different. For instance, the 5D doesn't have a built-in flash - you'll need an external flash if you want one.

I have the t3i and I love it.

I've added a couple lenses for shooting cars and motorcycles and landscapes. Although the 18-55 lens that comes with the camera is pretty nice! You really can't beat it for the $.

just a worthy note, the 5D is a full frame body (generally, full frame lenses cost more)

I've been holding off buying a T3i in anticipation of the T4i.

Any updates on it? Or should I pull the trigger on the T3i?

It was released 13 months ago, if Canon release history shows true, it could be another 2-3 months just for announcement.

They say any improvements will most likely be in video

Loving my t3i so far, highly recommend it. Everything is user friendly but it still offers full manual and the ability to change every setting.

I just got the 5D MKII refurbed from Canon Direct at $1759 and had 5D, 20D, 10D before ...
FF is better esp for WA.
Kinda depends on your lenes ...
Better to stay away form those S lenes even if you stay APS - C.
All L for me!
