Speaking of Red, aren't they supposed to be coming out with some sort of hybrid still/video camera for like ~$5k?

30fps = video

24fps = film

ever since HD...people have been shooting 24fps (23.98fps) for a more "film look." Very much a standard.

A subject that is much, much deeper than you can possibly imagine.

I also don't understand the 24fps vs. 30fps thing. I know the effect of 24fps is more "movie like", but could you not just rip out 6 frames in processing? I would think it's easier to remove frames than to add them...

I'm guessing this "quick" mirror drop mode has something to do with the take-a-picture-while-in-video-mode trick..

http://gizmodo.com/5052038/hands+on-...eos-5d-mark-ii

the 5D adds three distinct modes for AF during live view—color contrast and facial recognition, an "quick" mode which quickly drops the mirror.
Ok so I'm pretty pissed / disgruntled / reading all these early hands-on reviews... Canon is obviously hooking the grubby hands of many a tech people with these fine specimens. And, I DEMAND to know why I was excluded...!

well...if you are recording to tape you are running at 60fps (another standard in HD) and then in post you perform a pulldown (extrapolating marked frames to make your 24fps project. So, yes they do it.

BUT if you shoot to CF, hard drive, flash drive, etc. Then, you can do that...but take up the extra storage needed to handle that when, like a film camera you can just shoot 24fps? It also allows for realtime playback of sped up or slowed down footage shot off a 24fps timeline...like slow mo at 48fps.

Like Bill said...it gets much deeper than this, but that is a basic jist.

dang.. is it like, 30fps is almost like, too smooth, thereby unnatural-looking?

All the Canon users that have those cameras in hand right now also use macs. They read your comments on here about apple and said, nope, not this guy.

That brings up random video related bitch of mine. Almost everything shot on video now days has (or tries to have) the same color pallet as film. Even my $700 consumer camcorder. I grew up with the soap opera look and sort if miss that life like appearance video used to provide over film. Certain content more than others.

Ugh, I never thought of it as being more life like. In fact seeing it as a kid used to bother me and I never knew why.

But porn is porn...I think they probably shoot 30fps for web content at this point.

FWIW - Glance at this for a little peek under the hood of dealing with 24p content in the world of "normal" video.

How do you think the 75% of us here that work in IT feel when we get retarded question after retarded question any time we speak with a family member? Although, that's pretty much become non-existant for me since I switched my parents to a Mac.

And before you say it, yes here you just get question after question from retards.

to all the video naysayers.. it looks like video is NOT the only thing Canon worked on, for this cam..

Canon claims this camera produces the best images EVER from any camera they have ever produced, including all the Mark lines.
yeah that's right, that's a tomato in your face.
