It's all in the detail - Formula SAE race car

I was really involved in the build process of our school's Formula SAE race car last season. These are some long-lost detail photos of our finished car.

FSAE cars are pretty much a scaled up version of a go-kart. Ours is pretty technically advanced. It makes 80+hp from a Honda CBR600 motor, weighs around 400lbs, and does 0-60mph in 3.0 seconds. Enjoy!

Cool pics!

I did FSAE at University of New Mexico in 1998. It was the first year at that school and our car sucked - but it was one of the coolest experiences I had in college.

How did you guys do with this car?

We didn't do well... like 40th overall. Our engine blew midway lol. Our engine was definitely one of the most powerful there, it was pushing the limits and blew it during the competition so we didn't finish. Our previous years consistently placed top 10 overall out of 100+.

With the DOF on some of those shots it takes a tilt-shift lens kind of look.

BTW. I work in W'loo and have wandered the shops of some of your sponsors.

not too sure about the mixture, i'm assuming race fuel.

we had 3 main drivers. all of them have had racing/auto-x experience. two of them raced in previous FSAE races.
