Disappointed fox

A few weeks ago after the last big snowstorm I watched this fox trot up to our backyard gate and attempt to enter the yard as he often does. He normally goes underneath the gate but this time the snow was simply too deep. After trying a few times he gave up and stared directly at me for a good minute or two. I guess he expected me to go out, open the gate, and let him in. Once he realized that wasn't going to happen and that I had no intention of leaving the warmth of the kitchen, he turned around and slowly trotted back down to the river.

Nice shots of the fox. You could have thrown him something to eat.

Actually he does get fed pretty regularly, and if you notice, he's not exactly thin. I probably shouldn't do it, but I often throw scraps like turkey and chicken carcasses outside of the fence for the critters. That's the reason he comes to the yard regularly.
