compact laptop for uploading/editing pics: suggestions?

i want to get a laptop specificly for my photo needs, something that fits in my canon bag that i can take with me in the same bag,and something that is fast, for large raw photos etc.

when/if i get this laptop it will only be used for photos, not the internet or music.

i already have 2 personal laptops, mine and my wifes.

suggestions?

I edit photos on my laptop and it's not the best piece of equipment out there.

I wouldn't for photo editing. Better off with the cheapest 15.4 inch screen out there....

I still don't understand why you want a separate laptop.

I'd personally stick with lightroom for the laptop, and do final PS work later,
given the smaller footprint of LR.

I do some work on the laptop, but the colors on my laptop are horrible so I don't use it for final work. It's good for sorting / 1st run cuts (blown focus, etc). So for me, a
big screen isn't important.

You will want:
1) A healthy amount of memory.
2) A fast hard disk.
See: storagereview.com for recommendations.

Personally, I'd just upgrade your current laptop and use that.
My method is to carry one day's worth of memory with me (Most I've ever shot is about 5 gig, so I carry 7 gig) and then offload at night. Even if I had my laptop with me, I wouldn't sort pictures in the field.

i want my pics/editing to be done seperate from my personal computer,

if i was going to spend money to upgrade mine, why wouldnt i just get a new computer, and be happier with my choice.

just curious if the baseline macbook would be able to handle all photo editing capabilities. I'm looking at that, might upgrade the ram to 4gb, probably not through the apple store though.

will the integrated GPU do all the stuff needed for CS4?

Maybe I'm just really outdated, but my old 1.2 ibook had a kinda hard time with CS2 and large raw files.

It will certainly be easier than your current ibook. The current macbooks are pretty impressive at what you can throw at them, I can only imagine what the newer macbooks are going to bring.
