Canon Prototype Full Frame DSLR Shooting RAW Video?
February 15th, 2010 by Canon Rumors
HDSLR w/Raw Video?

1Ds4 or 5D3?

In my inbox, as well as posted on Planet5D (not sure which came first). There is apparently a full frame dSLR being tested in Europe that can shoot RAW video.

Could the camera be the upcoming 1Ds Mark IV or early testing of the 5D Mark III? I’ve been told previously that the 1Ds4 would have video features currently not available in any Canon dSLR.

The 5D Mark III is starting to get whispers around the web. From myself as well as others. I won’t be posting much at this time about such a camera until regular sources start to say something. The camera could come as early as Photokina in September, but I’m still wagering on a 2011 release.

1Ds Mark IV Release Date
Everything has been quiet about a concrete launch date. There also hasn’t been any new word on lenses. Going by past experience, this is the calm before the storm.

From DigitalREV
They’ve apparently been invited to a Canon Press Event.

From DigitalRev’s Twitter Feed

No Confirmed Press Event
I received an email saying that February 23, 2010 will be the launch date of a new camera body. The source said “trust me”.

We’ll be on the lookout for press event(s) around the globe.

cr

I doubt it this is true.

The 1DsIII was announced and went on sale about 5-6 months after the 1DIII was announced. I don't think it will be very different this time around.

http://www.canonrumors.com/2010/02/w...next-week-cr2/

From one good source
This is a CR2 source that has been right on multiple occasions and missed a few.

Next week I’m told we will see the following.

Camera:
1Ds Mark IV at 32mp. No other spec details.

There will be no 60D at this time.

Lenses:
EF 24-70 f/2.8L IS

I’m told this is for sure, take it to the bank. I have yet to hear from CR3 people in regards to the lens.

2 other lenses would be announced. One would be niche market and the other an EF mount lens. There is currently nothing more definitive out there.

Flash [CR1]
2 different sources said we’ll see a new speedlite. Both are CR1

There should be ton of info over the weekend, and I’ll be awake for most of it.

hm....

Ugh...I'm thinking a 50D is in my future since the 60D seems like a pipe dream... Unless I can get a good deal on a 7D

EF 50 f/1.4 II USM [CR2]
MARCH 24, 2010 CANON LENSES 57 COMMENTS

A much needed upgrade is coming
A good source piped up today and said a new EF 50mm f/1.4 USM exists and is being tested. Release date is unknown.

Upgrades:

Optical upgrade, but it’s not “L”
Build upgrade. The current 50 f/1.4 from Canon is one of the most unreliable in the lineup.
New USM
Along with the above, expect a nice price increase as well. Most likely above its Sigma counterpart.

1Ds Mark IV & Lenses [CR2]
APRIL 13, 2010 CANON 1DS MARK 4, CANON 60D, CANON FLASHES, CANON LENSES 12 COMMENTS
About time someone spoke up
A CR regular has piped up about the massive announcement of new gear coming from Canon.

I’m told to expect 2 separate announcements, one for the prosumer market and one for the pro market.

Announcement 1

60D Type of camera, it could be called something else.
The EF-S 60mm Macro will receive IS.
There is a “murmur” that a new 70-300 type of lens could also be announced.
This will be the first announcement.
Announcement 2

The 1Ds Mark IV will be announced
EF 24-70 f/2.8L IS will be announced
A new f/4 wide angle with IS
A new L prime, unknown as to which will get replaced. The 35mm isn’t a guarantee.
A new Flash
New accessories
This will be the 2nd announcement and the big news for Photokina
The source saysamendmentscould be made over the next few weeks, so keep checking back.

5D Mark III & Other Tidbits

* May 3, 2010
* Canon 5D Mark III, Canon 60D, Canon Flashes, Canon PowerShot
* 73 comments

5D Mark III in 2011
Vincent Laforet on a recent webcast alluded to the next incarnation of the 5D coming “next year”.

He also mentioned Canon is committed to improving the mini HDMI connector on the cameras.

It’s rare to hear any of the sponsored photographers mention future products.

New Flash
A brief comment I received said Canon is readying to replace the 580EX II with a new unit. This will not be an addition to the flash lineup. There will be some new technology built into the flash as well.

PowerShot SX20 Replacement
The SX20 replacement will take a bit of a departure from the SX10 & SX20. Expect a new lens setup, design and image sensor technololgy.

The source also says expect the SX20 to be the last superzoom from Canon that uses AA batteries. I know that will NOT be music to the ears of a lot of people. It seems to be a 50/50 split for LiIon vs AA with the camera line.

New Waterproof Camera
Expect a new waterproof camera to be announced with the 60D in the coming month. I’ve also been told there could be a waterproof camcorder.

hmm.... what could they change with a newer 580ex...
i would be annoyed because i just got one.

actually just thought out it, one thing they could change is so that it emits low EMI like the 430ex II does

so the flash would work better with the newer pocket wizards.

saw these earlier.

Didn't see the enhanced image thou.

Also CR2 from canon rumors

Specs:
18mp (Exact same as the 7D & T2i)
Tilt Screen (No word on size)
“Video Optimized” (I’m going to assume better AF when filming)

More soon.

i dont see whats the fascination about a swivel LCD. you're not using it to take photos.

i guess unless you're the type to always use live view.

i remember i was at a car show and everyone that had a DSLR with live view w/ contrast autofocus.
they were using their DSLR like a point and shoot.. not one as using the view finder.

then again you could use it for video..

This thing has been in "imminent release" rumor mode since early 2009. I'm so glad I got the 50D and didn't wait for it to be released. Unless this has a 7D-like AF system, I think I may keep my 50D for a little longer.

if you owned a camera that did it, you would get the purpose.

i have a D5000 with the swivel screen..
it works PERFECT for taking pictures at very low angles.. (otherwise i guess you would just lay down?)

or when i need to raise my camera over my head... i can tilt the screen to an angle that shows me exactly what im looking at (normally you would just guess and hope)

it's also great when you and your friends want to take pictures together .... you can flip the screen down and around to make sure everyone is on screen and its centered..

it may not apply to everyone but i find the swivel screen to be EXTREMELY useful...

my avatar was taken using this nifty option

also, when your done using the camera, you can close the screen face down and avoid any scratching of the LCD... love this feature.

It's good that it does this, because it's not as protected as the in body LCD screens as their other bodies. It is also 1/3 of the resolution as the in body screens as well.

I guess it had its purpose for a tiny and light camera like that.

But on a 60D + grip and a say a 24-70... No want.

but you couldnt see the screen if it was fixed... thats why the tilt/swivel is so nice to have.

live view cameras are great for quick shots and limited off-angle shots.. but when holding the camera near the ground or high in the air... live view wont do anything for you if you cant see the screen.

I have a D90 currently and like the camera but have always been a Canon person. Had a 30D I loved. Well I decided to upgrade and bought a Canon 7D. Well that camera is built really nice, and I hated to give it up because it had poor AF focus issues. All the pictures came out Soft/out of focus look no matter what setting I used. There are many articles on the net and topics regarding this too. So I had to send it back. That made me mad and I am worried that the next camera Canon comes out with might have the same issues too. So for now while I sit back and watch and read, I will use my D90. What would be the next step up from a D90 you guys think without losing features really? I still like Canon cameras more than Nikons.

Ok maybe I can't see the LCD as clear as with one with tilt. But since I would never hold a dslr directly over my head since I need to be able to press the shutter. The way I hold it, I'd be able to still see the LCD at an angle.

That's just based of my very limited usage of live view, since I rarely use it.

Did you send in your 7D for repair? If so, how was it when you got it back? Mine has been awesome since day one after some AF Microadjust.

I sent it back where I purchased it from for a refund as I was within my 21 days. I even called Canon and they were useless. You wouldn't think the Microadjust would need to be adjusted on a new camera that came with the lens.....if that was the issue.

Yeah, I would never hold over my head either. And if I wanted a lower view, I would be down on my knees. I have a pretty good pair of knees pads that I keep attached to my backpack.

Most of the newer bodies are outpacing the older lenses, thus they need for M/A.

I guess I could see the point of the flip out for video and protection but
otherwise, meh. Especially if the resolution suffers. Although I'm not sure it
will with this camera.

And does anyone else think that camera looks slightly big to be a 60D?
Or maybe his hands are on the smaller side.

I'm just saying that if I were looking at a camera the flip out screen would definitely not be a deciding factor, but to some people it will be.

You did see that you can use that thing off of the hot shoe right?
