Canon: Rumor Thread
The future, this is either going to be a 1Dmk IV or it's going to be a camera in the likes of a EOS3. EOS3 was Canon's baby 1D when filmed was used. I say this because of Canon's UK website, it shows the top of the camera w/o a knob.

Might as well have one of the best made, for me, it'll be a trip when I get my son using it a few years.
Chinese people don't like 4, it's similar to to 'die'.
Will they really go 7D instead of 5D Mark II? Who knows (/cares I guess)
Whatever it is, I doubt we'll hear any official announcement till photokina

alright found some 1DMK4 rumors..
Note this refers to a particular test camera, and as Canon regularly tell people doing testing 'not all features may make it to production'.
* 1.3 crop
* Images ~16MP
* ISO 50-25600
* 8MP sRAW1 format providing images that seem to best 1D3 files in detail
* Very clean images at ISO 3200. 6400/12800 take further processing very well
* Slightly faster FPS than 1D3 in real life shooting
* AF greatly improved and very good in low light (actual comment was 'Nikon fast' ;-)
* Liveview AF - not up to fast sports use, but very usable otherwise
* Video as with 5D2
* Screen as per 5D2
* Ergonomic improvements with grips - some buttons moved
* Feels faster and more responsive in nearly all aspects of real use.
Testing is carried out on different parts of cameras in different bodies, so if a 1D4 arrives in August, expect the specs to be pretty close. If it doesn't turn up until January, then quite a bit could be different (such as an FF sensor, which we've also heard of being tested)

Also, with AF being a switch on the lens, I'm not sure how you could incorporate that into a button/switch on the grip.
Top right:

I use AF-ON as well as the Exposure lock button (*) all the time, but the grip only has the ExpLock and the AF select button, not AF-ON.
You can reprogram them , but then it screws up the zoom in - zoom out review buttons.

Yeah, I remember the * reprogram being discussed before but never paid attention to the AF ON.
As for the recompose, I usually use spot or weighted metering, so I usually want the focal point to be the most acurately metered area.

I was looking at some indian ruins and I wanted the ruins in focus, but the metering from the sky through the window in the ruins... Used the AF-ON to get the focus, then metered with the half press and got a great shot of my thumb.

I can't wait to see the specs on this one.

Starting..... NOW!
