nice work Rubin!
I wish I could get out and shoot tonight, but its 90, and humid....homey dont play that
also, my friend has my truck to fix my ac, and big brother is watching now with GPS in the van, so I cant take it out to play anymore. So I'll be stranded tonight when the woman goes to work

no work to do today other than dropping something off at my office in NH, I think I shall take a ride though the back roads of the rural areas near there and see what I can find
Anyone seen mention of whether Kirk Photo and Really Right Stuff utilize the same dovetails on their ball heads and plates? I have Kirk stuff now and was recently wondering if I could theoretically switch to RRS without having to buy new plates for everything.
If you have Kirk, then getting a RRS ball head will be no problem. But the quick disconnect lever on the RRS is made for RRS plates, using Kirk or another you'll need to get the screw type ball head from RRS.
check their site about the lever release clamp.

NOTE ABOUT LEVER-RELEASE CLAMPS: Due to wide variations in other brands of Arca-Swiss compatible plates, we recommend using our lever-release clamps only with Really Right Stuff or Wimberley brand quick-release plates. To ensure compatibility with our lever-release clamps, we do offer a plate trade-in discount. If you already own Arca-style plates from other manufacturers (Kirk, Foba, Markins, AcraTech, Novoflex, or Arca-Swiss), we offer a $22.50 exchange discount towards purchase of a Really Right Stuff quick-release plate. Plate exchange only for identical model; you must send us your plate in advance to qualify for this discount.
On an unrelated note, I'm thinking of running to Wal Mart (I effing hate that place, but don't want to go all the way to Ace or Dulles) to grab a Canon Powershot D10 for my little canoe trip this weekend. I can't stand not being able to take pics at all.

Exactly. I'm considering the Panasonic Lumix TS1, too. It has a wider optical zoom range. It's not rated as deep, but really I just want it to be safe to splash or accidentally dunk. It's a little cheaper. I don't care about the better video, as I never use it...
who said Blu-Ray was dead?

128GB BDXL Blu-ray disc specification finalized... and fabulous!

posted Jun 25th 2010 10:57AM Looks like the Blu-ray Disc Association has published the final specs for the monster BDXL disc, opening the way for manufacturers to start introducing the technology in their optical drives. Not too much here that we don't already know: aimed at institutions and folks who need to archive lots and lots of... stuff, BDXL discs are available in either triple layer 100GB (re-writable or write-once) or 128GB quad layer write-once flavors. Of course, with all these layers (or layuhs in Brooklyn) the laser in the Blu-ray drive you already own won't be able to do the trick, so start saving your change for a hardware upgrade once these things become commercially available. PR after the break.
Thanks for the info on the plates. I really have no active plans on jumping ship from Kirk to RRS but the thought has occurred to me from time to time over the years. If I end up splurging on a new body, the thought of who's plate to get popped into my head.
My thoughts about these decisions: If I think I'll be upgrading to the higher model in a reasonably short period of time (a year or 2), I may as well spend the extra cash up front and buy/learn the one I ultimately want. Otherwise you're spending $250 now + $400 later. I'd rather save myself the $250 and do it right the first time.
I gave it a shot. Today I was trying to link pictures, and wanted to throw my laptop it was such a pain in the ass. At one point, Im logged in and trying to find an easier way, go to right click MY OWN picture, and it comes up telling me its copyrighted!
I tried with the same mentality that Jup has, but I just couldnt take it anymore

Preview as in live view? If that's what you're talking about, I hate it. At least with my D300. It wouldn't bother me as much if it didn't require two flips of the mirror taking significantly longer to take a shot.

heh... havent tried live view yet, aside from video. dont even know how to turn it on lol. i cant think of any time id need to use it..
btw did you know Canon makes a 9-540mm f/1.7 lens?
