I just wrote a whole run-down about the differences between some of the horses & owners & their behaviors & expectations - how they influenced the shoot and the outcome, but I went over the frickin 5 minute edit window, and it's all lost.

Anyway, I'd be happy to discuss specifics if you have any questions or critiques.![Smile](https://acurazine.com/forums/images/smilies/smile.gif)

OK. The only the only tenuous reason this belongs here is that it was shot on a 5DmkII. I was just searching for some DSLR video samples shot with a certain accessory I was reading about (Glidetrack), stumbled across this on Vimeo, and had to post. Imagine your bride's reaction if you put in your wedding video DVD and this is the beginning.
5DmkII + a couple of basic accessories + a boatload of talent

I miss my 03 CL-S :(
I liked that pan from 1:35-1:38. The shift in focus was perfect!
The dancing shots near the end were great, too - the lighting is just right, and the motion of the camera is great. Smooth action.
I also like the "coming soon" concept - while you're still working on the final video, put something up on their website with some of the stuff you've been able to get done quickly after a first pass of material.

--> Nikon D3s Goes To Space
Written by Eric on December 21st, 2009 | 1 Comment

NASA is a big Nikon fan apparently, having previously sent the Nikon D2Xs to space. NASA just placed an order for 11 Nikon D3S bodies and 7 Nikon 14-24mm f/2.8 lenses. That should compliment NASA’s stock of 76 D2Xs cameras nicely.
More details in the press release below.
MELVILLE, N.Y. (Dec. 21, 2009) – Nikon Corporation (Michio Kariya, President) is pleased to announce that the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) has placed an order for eleven D3S digital SLR cameras and seven AF-S NIKKOR 14-24mm f/2.8G ED lenses to be used for photographic documentation.
The D3S digital SLR cameras and AF-S NIKKOR 14-24mm f/2.8G ED lenses ordered by NASA will be carried on the Space Shuttle and used to photograph activities at the International Space Station (ISS) in the future. No special modifications will be made to these products. They will be the same products available to end-users, confirming the incredible versatility of the D3S. This equipment will be used along with the Nikon D2XS digital SLR cameras, NIKKOR lenses, and Nikon Speedlights already in use at the International Space Station.
Nikon has spent many years contributing to NASA’s study of space through the development and manufacture of advanced and extremely durable cameras as well as of NIKKOR lenses that make the most of Nikon’s optical technologies, and of which production has recently reached fifty million units. To date, NASA has captured more than 700,000 images using Nikon equipment carried into space. Space, however, is not the only extreme environment in which Nikon equipment is used. Nikon also provides official observation equipment used in exploring the Arctic. Nikon equipment contributes to observation and research of these little explored regions with durability, reliability and technical capabilities that stand up to even the most severe environments
Nikon’s history with NASA
• 1971: Nikon Photomic FTN* (NASA specifications) was used on Apollo 15
• 1980: The “Small Camera”, based on the Nikon F3 and equipped with a motor drive, and the F3 “Big Camera”, which utilized long film, were delivered to NASA. The “Small Camera” was used aboard the Space Shuttle Columbia launched the following year.
• 1991: The Nikon F4 and F4S were delivered to NASA
• 1999: The Nikon F5 and AF Nikkor lens were carried aboard the Space Shuttle Discovery to photograph extravehicular activities (EVA)
• 2008: D2XS digital SLR cameras were delivered to NASA. Six D2XS cameras are used in space to document activities such as inspection and maintenance
• In addition, approximately about 15 types of NIKKOR lenses (more than 35 lenses all together) are kept aboard the International Space Station for intravehicular and extravehicular photography to provide continued support for NASA’s space activities
*Nikon F equipped with Photomic FTN viewfinder that supports TTL center-weighted metering.
The D3S was released in November 2009 as the latest flagship model for Nikon FX-format digital SLR cameras. This camera is equipped with a new CMOS sensor (36.0 × 23.9 mm) developed by Nikon and supports standard ISO sensitivity settings of 200 to 12,800. Sensitivity can also be set as high as Hi 3 (ISO 102,400 equivalent) or as low as Lo 1 (ISO 100 equivalent). Image-degrading noise has been minimized to enable shooting at high sensitivities under even extremely dim lighting. In addition, the D3S is equipped with the D-Movie function, enabling HD video capture and includes high-sensitivity movie mode and movie editing functions for trimming start and ending footage or saving selected frames as JPEG stills. Naturally, the camera itself is representative of an all-round flagship model offering basic performance and operation that meet the strict demands (fast, support for high sensitivities, superior image quality) of professional and advanced amateur photographers in a number of fields, including the press, sports and nature photography.
The AF-S NIKKOR 14-24mm f/2.8G ED is the world’s first ultra wide-angle zoom lens to offer a focal length of 14mm with a maximum aperture of f/2.8. The performance of this lens has been extremely well received by the camera industry, and recognized by Europe’s Technical Image Press Association (TIPA), which awarded it The Best Professional Lens in Europe 2008, and the European Imaging and Sound Association (EISA), which awarded it European Professional Lens 2008-2009.

Burning Brakes
Today is my birthday and I have a choice between a lowepro backpack or a battery grip for my 7D. I honestly don't know which one to get.
#772
do you have a bag already that works for you for now?
I would probably go with the grip if I had a bag. I got my grip for my birthday in november, took alittle getting used to. I used to leave my tirpod attachment plate thing on all the time, now if I want to shoot handheld I remove the plate for comfort reasons. other than that I would say it's a good thing. some believe that it also slightly increases AF speed, I can't say for myself about that.

well, I ended up going with the bag. I currently have a lowepro slingshot 200 which I can't fit all my stuff in, so I ended up getting a lowepro computrekker plus. I'll have to see what kind of deals I can get on a 7D grip sometime soon.

Good call on getting a bag. The grip is nice, but it is a little awkward, especially trying to adjust AF points with the joystick in portrait orientation.
On an unrelated note, we bought a D90 for my sister in law and I played with it for a little while. Boy are things different on the Nikon side. Not saying they are better or worse, but nearly everything is completely backwards from Canon - even the way you mount a lens. For those of you that switched from one brand to the other, how long did it take you to get used to all the differences? And no - I have no intentions of changing to Nikon. I'm just curious.

I have used it from time to time, I really like. Nice that it's across the body and not on the neck. They have them at Ace Photo if you want to try before you buy.

Big Block go VROOOM!
I mentioned the R-strap some pages back in this thread. On thing I forgot to mention at that time was that the R-strap isn't the friendliest thing in the world combined with a battery grip. When you hold the camera+grip vertical, the attachment lug for the R-strap presses into your palm. For people with small hands, it may actually push their hands away from the grip's buttons enough to become a distraction.

event photographers beware
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5I_mYOPKV04
could be neat as a side camera shooting from various spots through out an event, capturing those moments when people forget there is a camera clicking away.

^^I suppose that this was inevitable. I can't help but wonder though, what the software does as far as composition goes. You would think that where a single face is detected it would likely just bullseye it right in the center.

Creepy guy in the mirror.
My 30d shutter button stopped working... Sigh. When I depress it the AF will hunt as normal, but the shutter will never release. In MF it simply does nothing. If I press very hard - I mean very hard. It will release. The shutter button on my grip is working flawlessly. Google has shown me to be a common problem. I am undecided how to handle it. I have seen people with charges anywhere from $100-300 to repair. I have also found a DIY clean/replace procedure. I am a DIY kinda guy, but if I screw up my body I will be devastated.

A used 30D can be had for about $400, sucks to have to worry about any of it though.

My d300 finally took a crap on the mirror sticking. It now sticks every condition, even inside which I thought it was just the cold and the mechanics getting sticky.
Driving to nikon today to see how long it might take.

Check this out. It's an eight month long amateur film making contest being held on Vimeo and being sponsored by them and Canon. The idea being that you start and end your short film with a still photo, but with a bit of a twist. Very cool idea.

My Lowepro ComputrekkerAW Plus came in yesterday. Don't know what the hell I was thinking, it's massive!!! I guess now my goal is to have it be the mothership for storage or vacation/work trips, and pick up a crumpler bag for carrying a body and couple lenses for walking around.
