Couldn't think the Camry could looks worse.....I was wrong.

Eww, the front end is disgusting. It does resemble Voldemort.

It has potential - tho that is one ugly car. If the natural gas companies subsidized the installation of PHIL at people's houses, such technology could take off. |
2012
Toyota Plans Media Blitz for Camry Launch this Fall http://www.autonews.com/apps/pbcsi.d...&q=80&MaxW=500 Toyota Motor Corp., seeking to rebuild U.S. sales momentum for its flagship Camry sedan, plans to position the redesigned car as "smart, safe and worry-free" during a fall media blitz, The Wall Street Journal reported. Toyota executives told a meeting of 1,223 dealers in Las Vegas on Wednesday that a massive media campaign will be used as part of the vehicle's launch and it will include 40 new commercials, according to the report. The newspaper, quoting a dealer who asked not to be named, said the campaign would begin in October. U.S. sales of the existing Camry -- still the nation's best-selling car -- have stagnated so far this year, essentially going unchanged through May at 126,094 vehicles. Toyota as a whole, plagued by lack of inventory stemming from the March 11 earthquake in Japan, suffered a 1% sales decline through May in a market that increased 14%. Toyota sold almost 702,000 vehicles in the U.S. over the 1st 5 months of 2011. President Akio Toyoda told dealers the company wants to sell 2 million vehicles in this market by 2013, the Journal reported. The automaker wants to sell 20 new or redesigned vehicles over the next 2 years, the Journal reported. Toyoda told dealers the company would be more committed than ever to be a leader in the industry. "We must earn it with our actions and with our words, with great products and great service and with genuine affection for our customers and our communities," Toyoda told dealers, according to a statement released after the meeting. |
The word is that when Toyota first showed the new Camry to the dealers a no. of months ago, the reaction was less than enthused.
When Toyota showed the changes to the Camry in Vegas the other day, the reaction reportedly was much warmer. Think that the interior of the new Camry will be signifcantly nicer and that it won't drive as much like an appliance as it does now. The big question mark is then the exterior sheetmetal (but then again, loyal Toyota buyers seem to be able to overlook bland or ugly sheetmetal). |
Woner what dealers were thinking in New Orleans when the 4G TL was shown....

^^ April Fools

Is that pic a 2012 Camry? What's the difference? :dunno:
|
^ No pics of the '12 available yet. The problem for Toyota is that cars like the Passat, Kia/Hyundai and the domestics have cought up in terms of reliability/features and now very little differentiates between them except for style. The Camry lives in a commodity mid-sized sedan market. Like the Accord, without some style, those sales will continue to stagnate.

lol @ a Camry looking that aggressive (in the NA market) Not gonna happen. |
it looks like a current Camry mixed with any of the newer Subarus
but it looks better than the Accord. the Accord is just so boring looking |
I'm trying to hold off on seeing the 2012 Camry as much as possible. We'll be seeing them every 5 minutes through 2025 or so.

With less ugly. |
Here are the first images of the JDM Camry (apparently the hybrid).

Actual 2012 Pics
Here are screen shots of the 2012 Camry from a Youtube video that has been taken down.
1.) This is just a light MMC, right? 2.) Why is Toyota insisting on basing the design of their cars on the Corolla? 3.) Judging from the size of the Lexus IS hand-me-down wheels, these pictures probably represent what the SE model may look like. Which means the standard model will be typical Toyota-Lexus/Bland. 4.) What's up with the LFA-looking taillights? https://acurazine.com/forums/picture...ictureid=45052 |
1) no, FMC.
2) Brand identity 3) Yes - to be expected 4) They had to spruce it up with something. |
The interior is still blahhh....gross

2012 Camry Hybrid Revealed
|
Even Toyota can make the Camry not be bland. :toocool:
|
Its not terrible :-)
|
Not bad at all. Looks a little small though???
|
:drool: :mizouse::rave::ohsnap::twiggie::excited::rockon: :boink:
In all seriousness, its not bad. Front reminds me of a big version of the Kia Forte. |
|
looks like an oversized corolla :dunno: the back 3/4 at least from the side.
Its not bad but nothing really great about it either. |
For a bread and butter car like the Camry, the styling is actually somewhat aggressive. Looks decent aside from those chrome fog light surrounds.
Now, what will the next Accord look like :bitelip: |
I'm curious to see what the SE model will look like.
|
^+1
Looks good, but, doesn't seem too much different from the current gen and it does remind me of an oversized corrolla. |
About what was expected...this is Toyota after all. The blending of Toyota and Lexus styling continues (reminds me of the Lexus HS)...
|
I can't make it out from the presentation screencaps. I hope "normal" LE and XLE look decent. The hybrid looks like a corolla mated with a kia (see kia-esque foglights). It's actually not bad!
Like someone said above, I'm also curious as to what the SE model will be like. Before getting my TL, I was seriously looking into the SE V6. However, things like the cheap interior and (at the time) unintended acceleration, turned me away. It would be great if they could make a SE that was as sporty as my TL (Base), but as quiet and smooth riding as a normal camry (LE, XLE). |
meh
|
That mileage figure seems high even with the smallest engine - 26.5km/l is about 60MPG.
|
I believe that's specifications for a hybrid. I don't speak and can't read a lick of Japanese but based on Toyota engine designations (T for turbo, Z for supercharged), the X in the latter part of engine code would mean that is a hybrid. E usually designates fuel injected. My best guess has been that F means aluminum block.
|
I hate the new Turbo Regal...that being said, I don't see why one would buy a new camry when they could get the regal
|
reliability...

Toyota Camry leaked
|
|
Mostly confirming what was rumored. Intersting to see that two levels of the hybrid will be available.
|
I guess it look better but too similar to the previous gen IMO. Looks more like a refresh.
No doubt it will sell like hotcakes. They could slap a :turd: on the hood and still sell over 400K per year. |
Not a bad look!
|
i think they made it look like a smaller car, I didn't read the specs so that could very well be the case. the current Camry is a pretty big midsize, and looks it.
|
|
The bigger pic on the left really looks more like a Subaru though
|
These are not my kind of cars, but I'm expecting great things from this next Camry. I highly doubt Toyota's venture with Subaru was for the FT-86 only. If it looks like a Subaru, maybe it'll have a turbo AWD! :tomato:
